(help) I NEED SOMEBODY, (help) NOT JUST ANYBODY (help)
I'm looking for someone to help me out with my prom dress. I just need help figuring out how to make it all work. Let me explain my idea.
The dress is BRIGHT pink, and I got it for free a few years back, and I still fit in it. Now, because I'm a broke ass art student, I don't have the money to pay for both prom and a new dress. So. I saw this dress in my closet, and started thinking about it.
I sewed a thick black satin stripe on the bottom hem of it to add a little color (i'm sticking with black and pink) and that looks really good. Then, (MAYBE) I might put another stripe of black in the middle, and then another one around the waist. I drew it out on my trusty old mac, and it looks good but we'll see. I'm also going to sew a thin black ribbon along the top of the dress.
This brings us to the hard part:
I want to cut the straps off and make it into a strapless (whoa, didn't see that one coming..hmm) dress. Staring at the dress for hours on end, and having Lisa AND my mom AND her friend look at it have raised many a problem:
1)My boobs aren't small, but they aren't gigantic. The dress wasn't made to be strapless, therefore, how will I hold it up? i might have figured this one out, using either boning, or elastic. I was also thinking possibly thin black straps, but I don't know. I've only worn a strapless dress once, and believe me, it looked like a whale shoved into spandex. Yikes. I wanna look hot. =(
2)There is a zipper running up the back from a little under the waist, to my neck. Yikes. I was thinking about ripping out the zipper and getting a shorter one, but unsure of if this would work or not. Zippers are a pain in the ass to sew on....BUT SO FUN TO SAY!!!!
I wanted to do a corset on the back, and I have the rings for it, but I have to figure out how to get rid of the goddamn straps. I think I've figured it out, but we'll see. If anyone has any suggestions, please share, I need all the help I can get.
Well. I'm off to the fabric store to see if I can find anything that will help me out. *tips hat* Good day
