Sweet Valley High # 16 From Rags to Riches

I haven't seen anyone claim this one, and I just finished reading it.  Sorry I don't have a picture of the cover.  I'm at home, on dial up, and LJ and pictures is being tempermental.  So without further ado, let the snarkiness continue....

So this book was confusing.  And pretty boring to start with.  This scene opens with Olivia Davidson talking to ( Read more... )

"Cokes" is a coloquial term. On the West Coast, kids have a "soda," Coke or otherwise.
Unless perhaps it was not the soda kind of coke they were having? Would explain the plot.

I remember reading the book and thinking it was strange that Mrs P wore pyjamas OUTSIDE. With people around. Yeah, I wear mine outside when I collect the mail, and any random person walking/driving by can see... But I don't wear them when company is expected. Maybe because my PJs are see-through. Or Mrs P's looking for a younger man ;-)

That stuff about Mrs Morrow and heroin - that was a surprisingly interesting thing in an otherwise dull book.

Alighting? Has anyone ever used that word in real life? Anyone? Didn't think so ;-)

Thanks for the recap, and have a lovely day! :-)

I don't think they ever said she took herion (from memory she took lots of 'diet pills' Herion is the OPs guess and one I think fits quite well!

Diet pills are more likely to contain speed/amphetamines. But it could still have messed up Regina, I guess.

Bruce in a speedo... wow, that wasn't a place my mind wanted to go ^^

Wow, so many people in this book were jerks!

Don't forget, it left little to the imagination.
That probably means you could see... outlines.

Is it better or worse when you consider that he's supposed to look like John Barrowman?

Mrs. Patman would have been wearing "lounge pajamas," not sleeping pajamas. They have a lining, so they're not totally see-through, and they're basically flowing slacks and a matching tunic. They're also very 1970s; I would have pictured Mrs. Patman more like Joan Collins on Dynasty: shortish skirts, narrow waistbands and shoulder pads for days.

And don't you love how, when Jessica wanted to impress Mrs. P., she gathered up the dirty glasses and crumpled napkins? Yeah, that's to the manner born.
