Amy's True Love was published in 1991, the year which saw the first performance of Angels in America, the death of Freddy Mercury, the legalisation of sodomy in Hong Kong, and the first use of the red ribbon to symbolise the fight against HIV and AIDS. Anyone picked up on the theme? Hold onto your hats, ladies: Sweet Valley's tasted the rainbow, ( Read more... )

This is toooo much. Jessica needs to be taught the meaning of the word "hypocrite", Amy needs to learn that respect for one's significant other is a two-way street, and Tom needs to realize....he's okay.

I just couldn't believe it when I got to the end of the book and Amy was STILL evaluating her life in terms of her significant other. DDD:

Some people need to learn it the hard way: in their 40's.

Haha, I love the scenes when Jessica and her cheerleader friends are eating lunch in the cafeteria. I seem to remember a book, don't remember the title, where one of the characters is thinking, "Even the way she peels a grape before she eats it is annoying." Ha!

I vaguely remember that as well. The cafeteria scenes are generally gold because there's next to no angst in them.

I feel like it might have been Heather Mallone eating grapes - or did she not eat?

Wasn't she the one who was baby-talking Aaron because he was "angway" about his parents' divorce or something? And she made her own clothes?

*dies of laughter at your comments about Kirk Anderson and Mr Collins* It's so true. Kirk Anderson only ever shows up when a mob is getting together to pick on fat kids, I'm positive.

The whole Amy/Barry-is-really-unconvincing seems to happen a lot - in Sweet Valley and elsewhere. It bugs me.

Now I really want to find this book again just so I can check out those crappy reactions.

Please do! This is a particular train-wreck of a book and everyone needs to share the pain!

Killed me laughing, this recap did :) (The guy on the front cover is cute, but you can totally tell he isn't into Amy at all. The expression is all like "WTF did I do to get a girl squashing herself against me and how do I exit this frame ( ... )

And Winston/Bruce fanfiction? Seriously? I must see this.
Apparently it's INCREDIBLY popular. I have to say, the only SV fanfic I've enjoyed is a pretty sweet Jess/Lila fic, which is all giggly and girly but kind of bitchy as well.

Almost anything on ff.net! It's all painful. I skimmed the list just now and I couldn't find the Jess/Lila I was talking about, though. D:
