Sweet Valley fashion binge!

So here's something - not a recap, although I have one in mind - that I've been working on the past couple days (why no, I have no job at the moment - why do you ask?).  There's this cool fashion website I like to visit called Polyvore.com - it's like a limitless virtual wardrobe.  I decided to create my version of some of our favorite characters' (okay, and Enid's) wardrobes, updated to 2011.  I'm sorry, no 80s fashion here!  I'm severally allergic :D

First up, Elizabeth!  I mostly looked for preppy clothes and ended up with a pastel theme ( my model, for reference).  Please note the barrettes (which unfortunately don't really match anything - it was really hard to find plain-looking ones), the watch, and the lavalier in the box (also hard to find - that one actually costs somewhere in the thousands).  I also gave her sensible shoes and decided that she's into matronly-looking scarves.  I'm rather proud of finding that navy blue sweater with the bow at the neck - I can imagine Elizabeth wearing it whilst interviewing people for the Oracle.  She also has the bare essentials for make-up, a typically white dress, and of course a pearl necklace which she can clutch whenever she's so inclined.  The tank top in the bottom row is what I imagine she wears on a date with Todd or to one of Lila's parties.

Next up, Jessica!  I know that Jessica is often portrayed as being trendy (note the flower-patterned, see-through leggings), but I think she really dresses with the intent to show off her body.  The two-toned tunic reminds me of that bikini top she's wearing on the cover of Heartbreaker, no?  I made sure she had a few purple items in her closet.  I really like that peach-colored belted top - she'd look good in that.  All her jewelry is Juicy Couture because why wouldn't it be?  Those leopard print high heels reflect her party-girl image pretty well, I think.  That perfume is Princess by Vera Wang, and you can bet Jessica got it solely because of the name.  Pretty self-explanatory all around.

Let's talk about Enid.  She's not a hugely popular character because she's boring and her only purpose is to be on Elizabeth's side all the time.  I bet most of us have forgotten about her drug-riddled past, haven't we?  Because she's not written as a recovering addict at all!  But that void in her character - namely, her personality - is kind of why this was one of the easiest and most fun wardrobes for me to put together.  I got to create a whole new character - one who isn't dominated by the pastel-wearing Elizabeth.  I decided that Enid was casual and laid-back, and that she liked cool colors and festive prints.  I like her orange sunglasses and black hat, but I really loved the butterfly dress I found.  It's a bit childish, to be sure, but I think Enid has a bit of the woman-child about her (I mean, if a 17-year-old girl can be called a woman-child).  The apple-shaped thing is body spray, in case anyone is wondering.  I hope she hangs onto some of this stuff when she becomes Alex [edit: originally wrote "Alexander" because I was tired and trying to do a rush job].

You guys.  This was the hardest - not because it was a chore, but because I know we all love Lila so much and I wanted to get this right.  Going by this picture, I decided that she's an autumn and gave her the appropriate palette.  Orange-yellow shirts, striking jewelry, reds and golds, and some grays.  It is so fun to shop with a fictional rich girl's budget!  I'm glad I found the yellow heels, that bright red purse, and that turtleneck cardigan - it's just so Lila.  True, a lot of this stuff is kind of old for a high school girl, but I am of the mind that Lila would approve of that distinction.  The brown leather satchel, for example, is her idea of a backpack.  I'm sure she wears that gray dress to the parties that she hosts.  I gave her make-up that wasn't too colorful, as I think she probably adopts the adage, "less is more." The perfume is Prada.  The floral "bralet" in the top row is a bit of a surprise, but I think she has a high-waisted skirt that works well with it.  It goes without saying that I couldn't have fit her entire wardrobe on here.

Well, that's my little experiment done.  Give feedback!  And I invite you to design wardrobes for other characters.  Olivia and Amy spring to mind.  Anyway, hope you enjoyed this weird little fashion guide.
