Greatest Hits

Hello! Those of you who don't get email notifications whenever someone joins the community might not know this, but since it was announced that Diablo Cody would be adapting SVH for the big screen, this community has gotten a HUGE influx of members. My inbox has been bananas. Anyway, irinaauthor and I thought this would be a good time to say howdy but also explain some of our in-jokes so everyone can join in the hilarity.

1bruce1 was started by Irina in 2007. There is a FAQ located here which is supposed to answer all your questions. There is also a separate post that explains our various silly LiveJournal tags that we put on the recaps. The tags are helpful because if you want to find all the recaps by one specific recapper (whose snark you enjoy) you can click on their name. Or if you want to find every recap that, say, involves Psychotic Margo who tried to kill Elizabeth and steal her life, you just click the Crazy Margo tag. If anyone has suggestions for new tags that they would find helpful, just let us know. We're always open to a new tag-joke.

Right now I bet you're wondering, "But which recaps should I read? I see that hundreds of Sweet Valley books have been recapped and I bet they were all amazing works of genius! I just don't know where to begin!?" Well, fear not! Irina and I have been talking about perhaps making a list of 1bruce1's greatest hits, as it were. Some of the recaps that we think are MUST READS for new people or people who might have just missed them.

1. Double Love. Of course, the very first SVH book ever Double Love introduces us to all the characters and was also the first recap in the community. It was our first pool push, and our first Toddpunch. It's no wonder that Double Love is the most recapped book in the series. If you have time, you should also check out a recap of the updated edition of Double Love that was released last year. Francine may have taken away Bruce's car, 1bruce1, but ironically, 1bruce1 the community is stronger for it!

2. On the Edge Regina Morrow's death was one of the most memorable events in the early SVH books. You'll read a lot of "and now she dead from coke" jokes in this community, so you should probably read about how she dead (did dead?) from coke?

3. And I can't very well let you go without reading The Evil Twin--the greatest book in the history of the English language! (Suck it, "Great Gatsby".) This is when the aforementioned Crazy Margo tries to kill Elizabeth and steal her life. FINALLY. It has to be read to be believed.

But weren't there a bunch of other Sweet Valley series besides Sweet Valley High, you ask? Of course there were!

4. The Unicorns Go Hawaiian is the greatest achievement in the history of Sweet Valley Twins (in which the Wakefield Twins are in middle school which is not to be confused with the series they attend junior high)

5. The Class Trip should not likewise be missed. Liz hits her head and has the most insane dream in the history of dreams. In the future, it will be studied by students all around the world (mostly students studying crazy, know-it-all type people).

6. If older Wakefield twins is your thing, YOU MUST READ the Sweet Valley University recaps involving William White--the crazy cult leader who falls in love with Elizabeth. He returns from the dead in an arc so epic, so spectacular that it had to be split up into book one and book two. If you want to find out where the phrase "muppeting the shrink" was born, well, this is the place!

7. Or if you want to read about that time Elizabeth went to London and finally (FINALLY) had "teh sex", you can read the recaps of the Elizabeth series which begins with University, Interrupted. But be forewarned, there is no Lila in this series which is a rather significant flaw in my opinion.

8. Then you might think, "Gee this is an awful lot of reading isn't there something funny I could watch?" Well, yes, yes there is. The recap of SVT: The Haunted House was done in hilarious video format. You're welcome, America.

9. And then there's the Sweet Valley board game. What is better than a game that involves collecting "things" like outfits, accessories and boyfriends? Nothing. Absolutely nothing is better. (Suck it, Yahtzee.)

10. Or maybe you like to do your reading when it's kept in a square 100x100 pixels. In that case, you should check out some of the fun icons that have been made for this community like these ones. Now you can comment on recaps of Todd punching with a Toddpunch icon! Again, you're welcome.

There are TONS of other great posts but I have limited myself to 10. I bet the other community members have other ideas. What are your favorite recaps, everyone else? What ones do you think our new members (or not so new members) should read?
