First off I must say I am surprised to see such a religious holiday being celebrated in Sweet Valley. Of course, they have 10 Christmases a year but that's obviously just so they can get presents and help needy people.

Secondly, why the hell does St. Liz have to make a list to hide eggs? Can't she just hide them as she goes along? I mean that's like making a list of what dishes to wash or something. And also, she goes out at night in the dark to hide eggs? WTF?

And yes, I totally feel you on how self aware Jessica is about her own selfishness.

Though put any two friends in the roles that Jess and Liz were in (one friend gets to hide the eggs and the other wants to cheat) and it'd happen the same way.

Mrs Otis is of the dumb to let one of the STUDENTS hide eggs. And force their poor parents to deal with the fact that the winner gets a live rabbit.

To be fair, it is mentioned early in the book that there's a permission slip that the parents have to sign.

But Liz says no. Liz is always saying no!! (And Todd can back me up on that)

Well I think Ms Otis has learned a valuable lesson about egg hiding, don't you?

"I never thought you’d be a cheater, Liz,” Todd said.

That is fabulous :) Though I can't help suspecting that by this point the ghostwriters are snarking themselves on purpose. It's the sort of thing I'd do if I was given the unenviable job of writing SVK...
