Tim knew he had spent too much time brooding in the open when Impulse blurred to life in front of him with a very concentrated, very concerned frown on his face instead of the usual bright smile.

“AreyouokayRob,becauseyoulookreallysadandstuffandMaxsaysthateventhoughsomeonesays

“Bart. I’m fine.”

“Oh, okay, butyoustilllooksad.”

He grimaced. “I’m fine.”

Impulse tilted his head to the side in a way that meant he was actually thinking really hard, before, very suddenly Tim was wrapped in a hug, and Bart’s hands were everywhere.

He stiffened reflexively, but Bart didn’t let go. In fact, he held him harder.

Tim wondered just how long it was Bart was holding him in subjective time, before Bart was suddenly gone.

He didn’t stop to think about the empty feeling his chest was left with.

Data stated speedsters emitted more heat than average humans, but that was different than actually feeling it.

“Youknowit’sokaytotelluswhat’swrong, right, Rob? Becauseevenifit’ssomeweirdbat-thingwe’restillyourfriends.”

Bart was back, still not smiling, and Tim didn’t think about how much that frightened him. Even more than when Bart discovered pixie sticks.

“We’re there for you.”

Some time later when Tim’s brain had righted itself he would realize that was the slowest speed he heard from Bart before, but it would be years before he realized just how much those words meant.
