NEW YORK... amazing. It was one of those trips where every single minute you are saying to yourself, WOW, I am having SO MUCH FUN. Here's the itinerary, and related comments:
Friday:
1. driving
2. backstage tour of the MET operahouse.... incredible! They have something like seven operas, all with complete sets, going on at one time. The sets are LIFE SIZE amazingness, like complete houses and trees and statues, columns, wow. From close up they look kind of tacky, but from far away it's gorgeous. We also saw the dressing rooms, the costume-making rooms (SO MANY COSTUMES! MY GOD!) And even the wig-making room. Our guide was this ancient volunteer and he was really cute... he wore plaid pants.
3. We ate dinner at a delicatessen. I had a sandwich with literally 6 inches of turkey in it. Greg ate a spicy pickle and made a funny face.
ok, i'm tired of this format. Highlights:
-- one of the activity groups (of which i was not part of, ):...) toured NBC studios, and saw Paris Hilton there preparing for SNL. I guess if there's any celebrity sighting I have to miss, it would be this one, since I think Paris Hilton is a terrible person.
-- the opera was really cool, but i was sooo tired and it was hard to stay awake. I think everyone napped a little. we were on the 5th balcony up, so the people were tiny and had no faces
-- conversation with me and greg:
greg- "I heard your great grandfather invented the Q-tip
me- "no, who did you hear that from?"
greg - "um... someone told me... inside my head."
yup. it was a great time.
-- we ran into Wendy Almela-Collins on the streets of NY, AND Max Lang at the Opera. WAring people are everywhere, it's actually kind of scary.
it all went by so fast, and i'm sad it's over. There are times when I LOVE my class.
