So it seems we've hit a bit of a snag with this trip to Japan. I'm sure everyone knows what's going on right now, so I won't get into explaining it all over again. I have heard that the A's, too, are joining in on the fun.
Here, Tek can explain it better than I can:
three choice quotes from our captain. “It’s uncomfortable, but the principle is the same, they are the basis of what takes care of us,” said Varitek. “We have to be prepared to take care of what was ultimately promised to our staff and everybody else on the trip. It isn’t about us. There are other people that are involved that are being forgotten about.”
“This is what we feel, for us to go on, it has to be resolved,” said Varitek.
“There were a lot of things that have gone on that have fallen by the wayside a little bit and this is one that really can’t,” said Varitek. “They are an extended part of our family and the ones who take care of us.”
Good job, guys. We're all very proud of you!
I honestly doubt that I'm eloquent enough to say something that hasn't been said yet. However, this is a good time to highlight those who are for the most part ignored in baseball - those individuals who are not members of the Players Association but are so integral to the success of the league and the teams that belong to it. Coaches simply do not get enough recognition for what they do, and seeing the players standing up for them (on both teams involved in this dispute) makes their importance clear. If the actual players are taking such drastic measures to ensure that the coaches are given what they were originally promised, then these coaches must seriously mean something to them. Chew on that, Selig. Go on.
EDIT:
Here's an update from Oakland. EDIT 2:
Problem solved? EDIT 3:
