The Masterson game last night was positively epic. Okay, maybe not 'epic,' but a team that was pretty much made up of prospects by the end of the seventh inning beat Northeastern 15-0.
Things I Enjoyed About the Broadcast (even if it did go out on me once or twice and I had to fix it...):
~ Our pitchers were all farmhands - Masterson, Hansen, Bowden, Breslow, Jones, and Jackson all appeared in this game. It made me happy.
~ Justin pitched two lovely innings. He gave up one hit, but erased it with a double play (because you know Jed totally had his back the whole time. Winking at your shortstop will do that).
~ Jed went 1-2 with a walk. He would've gone 2-2 if the Northeastern center fielder hadn't robbed him of a hit to the gap in his first at-bat.
~ Every time Jed or Chris Carter was up, someone would mention that they had gone to Stanford.
~ Jed was alternately described as "personable" and "a mature young man." Sure, he's mature - until you put him in the same room with Justin Masterson, and
I have an audio recording to prove this.
~ We may have the ability to field the smartest team in Minor League Baseball - besides the Stanford kids, Breslow (Yale) and Alex Cora, who is normally with the big club (and the maker of Cora Cola - long story), were on the field. At one point, I think all of them may have been out there at the same time. If Tito had put Chris Carter at first base instead of in the outfield last night, we would have had a positively brilliant double play combination. 3/4 of our infield would have possibly been able to join Mensa.
That aside, the Globe has
another prospect article up, and this time it's another member of the heralded Class of '05, Michael Bowden. I'm still waiting on a blog update from Justin and Jed, but I imagine that now that they've gotten some playing time they'll want to talk about that. Oh, and maybe Jed will give us an update on the condition of his nose, too.
I probably won't be online again until later tonight, as I'll be returning home for Spring Break (who needs to get drunk and sleep with people you don't know when you could be watching the Red Sox?), but I'm planning to arrive home right around the time the game starts at 7. Let's see how good my timing is.
