Curious as to who those prospects are that I've been talking about recently?
The Globe's decided to introduce them to everyone. Now Coco Crisp isn't a prospect and everyone should know who Jacoby, Lester and Buchholz are, but all the others are here, too. (This article pleased me by informing me that Clay is being considered untouchable in the Santana talks. Yay!)
And what about Santana? Well,
it's possible that no one will get him (Peter Gammons saying it makes me feel pretty good about it) and that he'll stay in Minnesota. This was one of the scenarios that I liked - we won't have to add him to the payroll (not that that's too much of a problem) and, more importantly, we get to hang onto all of our prospects, including my dearly beloved Jed Lowrie. We also don't lose Jacoby (much to many a fangirl's delight) and we might even end up somehow hanging onto Lester, as well, and switching him and Buchholz around in the rotation to keep everyone healthy and well-rested throughout the season (or we could try that six-man rotation thing...hmm). At the moment,
it seems more and more likely that we'll be hanging onto Jacoby, which is definitely a good thing. (That article also points out that he'll be on his way to the Athlete Performance Institute in Arizona, so he'll pretty much be hanging out with Pedroia for some time. That is going to be very, very fun to think about.)
Also, did everyone hear about this? This is probably the biggest trade that has happened so far...and it makes the Tigers pretty potent. Just for a little fun involving former Marlins, maybe we should pit Josh Beckett against Willis during one of our games with the Tigers next year. It'd be funny. (It also dawned upon me that Willis' numbers became worse after he got rid of his giant leg kick. He should start doing that again.)
Update: As I was typing this, an analyst on ESPN said that the Dodgers would actually be an excellent fit for Santana. I have to say that's an interesting one...if they get in on the trading, that is. They need to hurry up if they're interested...
Lastly, since it officially started at sundown last night, I wish a very happy Hanukkah to everyone celebrating right now! It's snowing here right now, as it should during the holidays...finally, it feels right.
(I'll take every opportunity I can to use that Jed Lowrie icon. Seriously.)
