Wonderful news - Iran released those British sailors they were holding hostage. Obviously, Iran knows better than to mess with John Oliver. Of course, the humor of this situation is that, earlier today, Bush stated that he saw no end in sight to the hostage situation and they were released later in the day. I await a comment from Jon Stewart.
There was a segment on the news today about a cab exhibit at the New York International Auto Show. I can't wait to go - they've made a Crown Vic cab that can hit 200 miles per hour! Murch's mother would love it. For those of you unacquainted with the Dortmunder canon, Stan Murch's mother is a cab driver in New York. If you're curious about the canon,
here's the Wikipedia article on it, but I would also suggest looking at
this page, too. (I have so much in common with Stan it's scary. We could've been fraternal twins.)
I am now attempting to introduce my family to Americone Dream. I picked some up yesterday, and they've decided it looks good. Now I have to make them taste it.
Oh, before I forget:
Vote Richard! I like Colin Firth (nobody's played Darcy better, in my opinion), but he didn't play Richard Sharpe. Sean Bean did, however. No self-respecting fan of Teh Richard should let this one go...
EDIT: Everyone does this meme at least once. Since I've recently acquired an iPod (my brother's old one, as he now has a Video iPod), let me try this one out.
The rules:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that’s playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don’t lie and try to pretend you’re cool…
Opening Credits: Miami 2017 (I've Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway) - Billy Joel
(Typical me - starting with a piano.)
Waking Up: The Greatest Cockney Rip Off (BBC Session) - Cockney Rejects
(That's me, isn't it?)
First Day At School: Meaning of Life - Monty Python (specifically, I think it's Eric)
(Only I could pull that one off. I guess it's sex ed or something.)
Falling In Love: I Want to Break Free - Queen
(I guess I'm not the committal type. Actually, I'm not even the romantic type, so maybe...)
Breaking Up: Manchester 1866 - Steve Jablonsky
(That's the opening song to Steamboy. That can't be right.)
Prom: Walk This Way - Aerosmith
(I'm not even touching that one.)
Life is Good: Requiem: Dies Irae - Mozart
(Uhm...that's a death requiem. Yeah. That would've been better for the next one.)
Mental Breakdown: Fagin's Loot - Rachel Portman
(That's from the soundtrack to the newest film adaptation of Oliver Twist. It's not bad, actually.)
Driving: Scenes From an Italian Restaurant - Billy Joel
(Hey, maybe they're trying to tell me something!)
Flashback: Come Together - Aerosmith (the remake, obviously, because we all know who did the original)
(Well, that's...interesting.)
Getting Back Together: Cable Chick - John Powell
(It's from the soundtrack to the newer Italian Job. Hmm.)
Wedding: The Sound of Silence - Simon and Garfunkel
(I was hoping I'd get my parents' wedding song, which I have on my iPod. It's You're the Inspiration by Chicago.)
Paying the Dues: It's Still Rock & Roll to Me - Billy Joel
(Boy, he's turning up on here a lot, isn't he?)
The Night Before The War: Monks Chant/He Is Not Dead Yet - Spamalot
(Apparently, despite the fact that I'm a military history major, I don't take war too seriously.)
Final Battle: Saturday in the Park - Chicago
(Oh, now I get Chicago! Just great. By the way, it's awfully hard to fight to that song.)
Moment of Triumph: Doki Doki Waku Waku - Saitou Ayaka
(Somehow, that is disturbingly appropriate.)
Death Scene: The Sortie of Scotland Yard - Steve Jablonsky
(More Steamboy, but this song's reasonably good.)
Funeral Song: Wellington's Victory - Beethoven
(Actually, it'd be wicked awesome if somebody played that at my funeral.)
End Credits: L'Italiano - DJ Serge feat. Angelo Ventuo (not the original version)
(Well, I am part-Italian, but...)
Well, that was fun, wasn't it? Just for kicks, here are the next five songs that would've come up:
Losing My Religion - R.E.M.
If You Leave Me Now - Chicago
Every Sperm is Sacred - Monty Python
Close (To The Edit) - The Art of Noise
If It Is To Be, It Is Up To Me - Chumbawamba
Go on, try it! It's a lot of fun, especially when the songs don't match.
