Yes, I really did pony up $30 just so I could do this.
But look, they're such a beautiful battery!
Jon had his high socks on today. Nice choice there although then I get distracted and look at his legs instead of his pitching.
Defensive grid as laid out by BisonsTV...
...and by Gameday.
Jon's lovely curveball.
Niese's roster photo is very outdated, but it's adorable.
The other half of the dynamic duo.
Marching back over to the plate after he fouled a pitch off.
Jon likes to try to hit, too. Josh is better, but don't tell Jon that.
...on second thought, go and tell him. It'll be funny.
Thols tries to hide behind his bat. Okay, not really.
Jon batting part deux. The helmet is way too big. Make me stop finding it cute.
HIGH SOCKS. Note that since this is an AAA game not being started by Stephen Strasburg, nobody is there.
One more of Thole batting. He started his anger hitting here after his relievers screwed Niese's win up.
The Bisons lost 7-4. Niese's final line was pretty solid: 6 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB (!!!), 3 K, 1 HR. Most of the hits were little bloops that his fielders just weren't getting to. The other five runs came off of De La Torre, who loaded the bases in the seventh without recording an out, Pettyjohn, who came in to clean up Torre's mess and allowed a home run the inning after, and Lujan, who pitched the ninth. In response to his relievers not preserving Niese's win, Thole went on a tear, spending the rest of the game hitting rage singles (he had two, and singles aren't really a 'tear,' but we'll say that so he sounds fiercer).
Also, three of the four Bisons runs were batted in by Daniel Murphy. Just pointing that out.
Niese is staying in Buffalo until the Mets get back from San Diego on Friday. He's due to throw a bullpen on Wednesday and then gets to watch his batterymate and friends try to get hits off of Stephen Strasburg on Thursday before returning home. He gets to stay with Thole and the others for a few extra days, which supports my FATE theory. Yay. Niese will then start on Saturday against the Marlins, returning from the DL.
Let's see how long it takes before Thole gets to join him again.
