Thole is the catcher in Buffalo today! IT IS ON LIKE DONKEY KONG, PEOPLE. (I've always wanted an excuse to say that.)

In sadder news, the Sox traded Jon Van Every back to the Pirates, picking up a single-A catcher in return (Josue Peley, whose offensive skills aren't too notable but who has fantastic defensive numbers). On the one hand, this season we've really seen how the Sox are suffering behind the plate defensively (i.e. throwing out baserunners), but this kid is still in A-ball, not even High-A, and he won't be with the team for a long, long time. I'm not sure this trade was necessary at all, to be frank, but so far this season the kid has a 38% CS percentage (he was at 44% last season to finish it up), which for a catcher is a pretty big deal.

I miss Van Every, though. Kid was great with the PawSox.

Also, today is Memorial Day, so take a moment to remember those who have sacrificed their lives protecting the country that they love. I got into military history because I was fascinated by the common soldier and what motivated him/her to do the things that he/she did for a nation. These people go through a great deal, and so let us celebrate those who are still with us and pause and reflect on those who have given all that they could give. Regardless of what country you have fought for, you are truly remarkable people.

EDIT: Caved and picked up MiLB.TV for $30 a year. Totally worth being able to watch prospects on my computer. Although to be completely honest I went for it today just to see Niese and Thole together.
