Things I Notice When Watching Minor League Baseball

1. Our dear friend Lars Anderson has a very, very cute roster photo in Pawtucket.

(Is it as cute as this one from 2008 belonging to a certain shortstop? Nope. But it's pretty darn cute.)

2. The PawSox are not all that good this year. Lars gave them a temporary boost upon arrival, but the pitching's been struggling a bit. It seems like the Sox are having more success with their lower-level pitchers than with the kids in Pawtucket right now. Heaven forbid we need pitching in Boston.

3. The Bisons, on the other hand, are doing extremely well this season. Except for you, Mr. Thole. But you've had a rough time, so I'm not calling you out. You've also worked miracles with that pitching staff. In all seriousness, when someone other than Thole is catching in Buffalo, the pitchers have seemed less sure of themselves and they've usually lost. Thole has a way with pitchers that I absolutely love (and hopefully Niese will love too when they finally battery it up) - he's really great that way.

4. I was watching the PawSox take on Norfolk today, and Jake Arrieta looked really, really good tonight, which was pleasing. He went seven strong innings against my PawSox and currently has a 1.93 ERA. He's one of those baby pitchers Baltimore has waiting in the wings (the clan includes Matusz, Bergesen, Tillman, Berken, Erbe and Hernandez, as well).

Arrieta, for reference. He has kind of awesome hair.

5. Kirk Nieuwenhuis is a total BAMF. Also, because his name is Kirk, I am tempted to scream, "KHAAAAAAAAAAN!" every time I see him.

This entry makes no freaking sense. I'm tired and I like Minor League Baseball. Yay.
