Too much ESPN for meeeee...but I like it!

I had a lovely evening. We won both games of the doubleheader and the Yankees lost to the Tigers. The postseason would be perfect if the Tigers suddenly started winning enough to get to the top of the Wild Card and Seattle dropped just a bit. That way we wouldn't have to worry about the Mariners, who tend to beat us surprisingly often (a strange phenomenon which I can't explain), and the Yankees wouldn't make it to the postseason at all. That'd be wonderful.

Since it's late August now, expect a lot of baseball posts from now until October. I watch the postseason and the World Series regardless of who's playing, so be prepared to be updated frequently.

I found the official Sox community on LJ, so I've been spending a lot of time reading through the posts there. I admit to being terribly amused. I then checked the interests page to see a couple of things. Besides myself, only 22 other people have listed Pedroia as an interest. 89 other people have listed Youk, though. (I follow the two of them especially closely, Youk because I've liked him since the beginning and Pedroia because...well, you know.) I'll probably add the rest of the team to my interests list later.

You know what? I need to make or find some Sox icons. I have none, and that depresses me. I did find a community for that, though! (I might have to do one with Pedroia that says something like "Not Thatcher" or something along those lines. I confess to almost accidentally calling him 'Thatcher' more than once when watching games. Bad habit.)

Now, because I'm sure you've had enough of that, let's turn to my winter sport. The Premier League has been up and running for a few weeks now, and I'm happy to say that West Ham isn't in danger of being relegated right now. You may be surprised at who is, though...

Current Standings:
Chelsea
Man City
Wigan
Liverpool
Portsmouth
Newcastle
Blackburn
Aston Villa
Birmingham
West Ham (yay, 12th place!)
Reading
Sunderland
Tottenham (I can't imagine Peter Cook is happy with 15th...)
Middlesbrough
Bolton
Fulham
Man Utd.
Derby County

Yes, you read that correctly. Manchester United only has two points right now. Their next game is with Tottenham Hotspur (I think it's tomorrow). For the Americans who don't follow football reading this, Manchester United is the Premier League's equivalent of the Yankees - they've won an insane amount of championships (16 Premier League titles along with 11 FA Cups). They've also got an overlooked rival team playing in the same city, Manchester City, a bit like how every newspaper in the New York area highlights a Yankees loss and adds a small article at the bottom about a Mets victory the same night, and a fierce rivalry with another top-flight team, Liverpool, which I would compare to the Red Sox except for the fact that Liverpool wins more often (they actually have the most trophies out of any English club, which makes them arguably more successful than Manchester United). It's very early in the season, so I won't make much of this, but it's certainly very interesting. A bit of a parallel with the 2007 Yankees at the beginning of their season, perhaps. Hmm.

One more sports note, but this one has wheels and can hit 230 mph on an oval. Infineon's tomorrow, so don't forget! (And Marco, good luck defending that title! I've got faith in you...)
