I was bad during exams and I missed my weekly Pac-10 update. Eh, academics are important, right? (Either way, though, I apologize, as I normally do this every week!)
Let's start with the standings, as usual. ASU has pulled back into first place since my last update with a conference record of 12-6 (and an overall record of 41-9; holy cow). So here's where we are right now:
Washington's certainly done some catching up recently, haven't they? They managed to pull in front of Cal to take third in the conference. At the moment, we still have ASU and Stanford at the top there. I'm going to have a 'why is Jed back in Pawtucket' moment here (I know I will have many of these until he's back up), but I'd love to hear him and Pedroia bickering over this. He is also probably letting Jacoby know that Oregon State needs to do some winning just to push Cal back down to fifth. But that's just me.
Players of the Week time -
our Player of the Week is Kyle Conley (Washington) and our Pitcher of the Week is Matt Gorgen (Cal). Of course, two Pac-10 players are in line for a bigger award right now, one that is given to a college catcher each year. That would be the Johnny Bench Award, and out of the twelve semifinalists, two currently play in the conference:
Jason Castro (Stanford) and Petey Paramore (ASU). On June 3rd, this group of twelve will be narrowed down to just three - so good luck to both of you!
No, that isn't the same Jason Castro, by the way. I mean, here:

Other than that, this is all that's gone on in the conference lately - the official season ends in less than two weeks, and then it's regionals time! This one's coming down to the wire...I'm loving it.
