I love Twilight (very opinionated rant)
I especially love when a new movie comes out, and there is a flood of new fanfiction out there in the world!
This latest one, despite Eclipse being my favorite in the series, didn't drive me into the usual frenzy... I didn't get the soundtrack a month in advance, I didn't record all of the Rpatz Kstew appearances. Didn't buy a new sweatshirt or bag or set of bracelets from Hot Topic 5 hours away. I didn't buy a huge poster to add to the collection. I Just waited, got my tickets early, and sat in line for a long time!
I'm not really planning on going anywhere here, but woot! It was a great night, an awesome movie, and now I'm finally going to be getting my Eclipse merch.
I am a vampire lover! I read Anne Rice when I was little, everything I could find. I mean I went and read every single vampire in the series' book. I think my favorite was Vittorio... And then I moved on to The Witching Hour and that whole series... And then I snuck to read a good chunk of her Sleeping Beauty trilogy (naughty naughty!). But anyways, Buffy, Angel, all of it. Anytime I found some information on vampires, I'd just absorb it and apply it, and add it to my mental codex.
And I MUST be the only person with such a respect for vamps that can stand Twilight. In order for it to click, because I really wanted to be able to get through the series, I had to separate all of my ideas about vamps from the new stuff. At first I was just like, pshhh, this is a cute story! Like fairy tale vampires... soooo dreamy! yey! And I know, Twilight isn't serious, but I certainly don't think it's goofy or silly... I still, at first, thought of TWI as fairytale and the traditional vamps as the realistic ones...
But then I watched through the Buffy series AGAIN... And then Angel... I watched them when they first aired, and every season as they came on DVD, and then just went from start to finish as my husband had never watched it... And nothing made sense anymore. Vampires are dead. They have died. They are not alive anymore. No heartbeat, no need to breathe, just thirsty. So why is Angel sleeping all the time? Why is he crying? Why is Spike eating onion rings at the Bronze??!?! No sense.
In Twilight, there is venom. It burns. It kills your body, and causes the transformation. It is the same idea, just labeled 'venom' instead of, vamp sucks human, human sucks vamp, tadah! It's the venom IN the blood that changes you! It's the venom that hardens your body. If Edward is dead, and a marble hard vampire, why shouldn't he sparkle? He's been crystalized! Why would a stake through the heart matter if you're dead?! Why would the SUN matter if you're dead? How do they die? They have to be taken apart and burned so their remains can't reanimate. Holy water? On a marble hard surface? Just water...
And so it made me think... All of the tradional vampire lore is just magic and dramatic... They're all fake, obviously, but bursting into flames? It's all flair, show...
