Talking to my mom.

Oct 18, 2011 10:18

My mom and I are talking about earrings.

Me: I have this really pretty pair of earrings I got in Turkey, I got them at the same time I got those earrings you always think are from Greece*, but they're so HEAVY.

I take a few minutes to rummage through some stuff to find them.

Mom: Oh, those are so pretty!

Me: Yeah, but they're really heavy. Oh hey, would you like them?

Mom: What, you don't want to keep them?

Me: Well, they irritate me because they're really heavy. I didn't realize how heavy they were when I bought them.

Mom, sighing sadly: I gave you those earrings for your birthday.

Me: What earrings?

Mom: Those earrings!

Me: I BOUGHT THEM FOR MYSELF IN TURKEY.

Mom: Oh! They look just like those earrings I bought you for your birthday a few years ago!

Me: You think I'm going to give you back the earrings you gave to me? I'm not that tacky. Also, are you even awake during this conversation?

*I have never actually been to Greece. And yet every time my mom wears these earrings, she points them out as "those earrings you got me in Greece!" And then I remind her that I got them in Turkey. EVERY TIME.

my mom drives me insane
