yesterday i had this craving to reread "the giver" by lois lowry.

i think this book is ageless, as it speaks for all of us in terms of what we would have to give up for a sense of utopia. you can't take away feelings, but you can alter someone's perception. you can breed robots and bewilder them with the past they were never allowed to know.

"the giver" shows how uniquely wisdom comes to everyone, and how easy it is to accept dogmas rather than struggle against a power who will, very calmly, take away your life. it represents the importance of emotions triumphing over logic. it shows that all of the bad things we wish would vanish are, in a sad way, necessary, and also that sadness comes where there is a lack of color.

someone once told me that you could be the most honest person in existence, but love will still conquer all, and will still matter more. i guess that goes for passion too.

don't be afraid to read the books you first read in fourth grade. it's not regression, it's resonance.
