White nylon gloved fingers balanced a cigarette away from her painted lips. She was a casual smoker, but there was nothing casual about her current situation. Certainly, waiting in an ante-room to be received by a highly recommended lawyer was a necessary evil, much like the nicotine that would yellow her teeth if she kept at it long enough.

You'd think that for the mother of a lawyer, she'd have seen her fair share of juridic entanglements. While Nathan did try to keep his professional life separate from his family life, he was his father's son: he kept all else but himself out of it. Half a mind was always on the newest case he'd been given. She couldn't have gone to him, it would've disrupted that fine balance. Otherwise, she held no qualms about her sons finding out the truth about their father. Respect she'd earned him over the years could only go so far before it took away from her own self-respect.

"Can I get you anything, Mrs Petrelli? A coffee, perhaps?" A girl - surely she couldn't have been over twenty-five - leaned over. What was she, a secretary, perhaps?

Do I look so bad as to need caffeine, Angela wondered, shaking her head in reply. "No, thank you. I'm perfectly fine."
