"I shouldn't be more than an hour," Angela informed her driver. She hadn't called ahead, but Charles was too close a friend and had told her too many times that she didn't need an invitation to come see him. And, well, now that his health was declining, she didn't want to wait too long.
His house was a beautiful one and she was still impressed by it, even after all these years. He'd made his daughter a wonderful home, she thought, as she entered through the foyer.
She could help smile as she saw him, not quite as alone as she'd hoped, playing scrabble with Simone's painter beau. "Good evening, Charles. I should have know you would be having company." Even at this hour.
