Teddy's day had been miserable. People had finally figured out that it was him in those club pictures, but few people came to him about it, seeing as, even though it had happened less than a month ago, it was old news now, as far as New Yorkers were concerned. Even so, rumors flew like bats at his school, and now he felt alienated, getting dirty looks, people avoiding him, and even the occasional insult. Already it was getting to him, and he wondered how Billy had dealt with it ( ... )

Aaron smiled expectantly as the boy finally walked in. This had been what he'd been waiting for; perfect and yet... He hated himself for coming up here again. Hated that he'd been too weak to bury his curiosity.

"Hey," he greeted nonchalantly, throwing a wave in when the boy looked unsure. This was going to be motherfucking awkward he just knew it. But, goddammit, he needed to know.

"Hi," he greeted back as he fought back the feeling of an impending blush. Succeeding, he sat down in his chair next to the couch. "What are you doing here so soon?" he asked.

"Well, since you're here, Teddy, I'm going over to Carlos' for a while. Be good," she said, smiling a bit nervously at the two. In what he believed was the hastiest retreat he'd ever seen his mother make, they were then alone. In his house.

And by God, was it awkward for him.

"I don't know why I'm here," he answered the unasked question, getting up suddenly. "And I can pretend I never came if... you want."

He searched the boy's face as he said it, not even sure what reaction would better suit him.

"I want you to stay," he said softly, his blush now coming out. He gazed at the man as well, trying to see something, anything, that would indicate emotion, but failed.
