Challenge: partyschwul (vom 22.01.21)
Fandom: AtLA
Charaktere: Sokka, Zuko, Toph
Wörter: 1057
A/N: Fortsetzung hierzu.

"That's..." Zuko made a sound that sounded suspiciously like choking. "Brilliant?"

"I keep telling you guys, I'm a genius."

Zuko nodded, distractedly. "And you're... You're okay with this, Toph?"

Toph just shrugged. "Sure. As long as you are, Ember Lord." And Sokka would probably have been worried about how this sounded like a challenge if it hadn't been Toph. And Zuko who would never back down from a challenge. They were made for each other. Because Sokka was a genius. Sure, they would probably cause at least two diplomatic incidents per week, but that was what Sokka was there for, right?

"Why wouldn't I be okay with it?"

It was a bit eery how Toph's pale eyes narrowed on the Fire Lord. Her grin was positively devious. "You tell me, Sparky."

"No reason, at all. I'd be honoured, Lady Beifong."

Sokka made a gagging noise. "Get a room, you two..."

Toph elbowed him in the side. "If the ambassador thing doesn't work out for you, you'll be a great match maker."

"I'm a great everything, thank you very much."

"So you're going to plan the engagement party?"

"Fuck you, Beifong."

Sokka would rather eat his meteorite sword than plan an engagement party for the Fire Lord with all the nobles and rules and traditions involved in that. No, he would leave that to Councilwoman Ha. A bachelor party for his two best friends, however? Absolutely! Especially if one of the aforementioned best friends had access to a lovely beach house on Ember Island.

Mai and Ty Lee were curled up in each other beneath a thin red blanket embroidered with palace regalia and Aang was passed out right next to them, buried beneath a heap of sand. Katara, Suki and Toph engaged in something that might have been interpreted as dancing around the fire by someone more gracious than Sokka and Sokka himself, well. He passed the bottle of needlessly spicy rum over to Zuko, who had one arm draped around his shoulders, leaning closer than was entirely appropriate for the sovereign of the Fire Nation.

Not that Sokka was complaining. For their own safety, they had vacated their spot close to the fire after the second time a drunk Suki had salto-ed over them, her foot missing Zuko's face by inches and it was getting chilly without a fire bender to cuddle up to. Not that Sokka would cuddle. Ever. Especially not with Toph's fiancé. Even if he was warm and soft and melted into his side. Zuko's breath smelled of chillies and alcohol and temptation and Sokka needed to go for a swim right now. "Thank you," the Fire Lord breathed into his ear and he stayed put. Because he was an idiot.

"You really are a genius."

A bumbling, stupid, idiotic idiot.

"I've been telling you for years now."

Zuko chuckled. A sound that should not have been as adorable as it was. "Wanna dance?"

Absolutely not. "Sure!"

The thing about dancing with Zuko was that for all the poise he posessed as the Fire Lord and all the grace of his fire bending, he wasn't a particularly good dancer. Sokka wasn't surprised and also didn't really care anymore, not when he stumbled over a foot that shouldn't have been there and crashed into a toned chest. One of the girls wolf-whistled and Sokka raised his eyebrows suggestively at his friend.

Zuko blushed to the tips of his ears. "I should be better at this!"

"Depends on what your intentions are, my lord." Sokka hadn't been aware that he was able to purr these words but it was absolutely worth it for the way Zuko's eyes widened before he caught himself and burst into laughter.

And Sokka pressed a kiss to his lips, short and forceful, and dissolved into helpless giggling.

"Get a room, you two!"

"Shut up, Toph!"

"Don't talk like that to the future Fire Lady!" Zuko's face was red but a smile played around his lips as he threw his arm around his future wife and Sokka thought that he didn't quite remember him looking this relaxed in years. So, maybe, yeah, Sokka was a genius. And then, a second arm was slung around his waist, pulling him in, pulling him close.

Okay, idiot it was.

"I'm such a...." Zuko's eyes were red-rimmed and his hair was a tangled mess as if he'd spent the last hour carding his hands through it. Sokka had never seen the Fire Lord like that and had certainly never wanted to.

"Are you alright?"

"No! Yes. I..." Zuko let his head drop to the table. "Tell me I didn't kiss you last night."

"No!" And then the memories came crushing back. "Well, maybe. But I kissed you first?" Which apparently wasn't the right thing to say judging from the strangled noise emerging from beneath the messy hair. "But, I mean, that's... who doesn't?"

Zuko lifted his head again, slowly. "Who doesn't what?"

"Kiss their friends? Occasionally. While drunk. -- I think Suki and Katara made out yesterday."

The disgusted face Zuko pulled would have been funny in any other set of circumstances. "Really? That's... something you do?"

"Sure! I'm pretty sure I kissed Toph as well." On the cheek. So not the point.

With a grown, Zuko hammered his head back on the table. Sokka flinched in sympathy. "I didn't."

"You didn't what?"

"Kiss Toph. Ever."

Oh. Oh. "Well. It's a political marriage, right? It's not like you two... Or do you?" The worst thing was probably that by now, Sokka had figured out why his heart clenched at that thought.

"No. No, we... I... No."

"So, that makes sense, doesn't it?" Sokka liked things that made sense. Not that anything else about this mess made much sense, but at least this little detail could be fine.

"I guess."

"Great. Now, if you'll excuse me, I will go throw up and go back to sleep until we need to leave."

Zuko looked up at him from the table, dark circles under his eyes but smiling softly. "We could stay for dinner, don't you think?"

"I would love to stay for dinner." I would love to stay forever, he didn't say.
