A confession

May 06, 2009 23:06

WHO: Shishido Ryou and Echizen Ryoga
WHAT: A "needed" talk at the tennis courts
WHERE: ...Tennis courts
WHEN: After this conversation so backdated a bit
WARNINGS: Shishido being an ass. 8D;

"Why the hell am I going out here to meet this idiot?" Shishido stared blankly at one of the many street lamps dotting the square around the street court. At the moment he didn't really mind the searing pain that his retina felt, maybe it would block out what the idiot wanted to tell him. Though his luck probably wouldn't be that strong and Shishido would have to suffer anyways.

The brunette sighed and tilted his head down and towards the steps, "He's still unable to tell time." Shaking his head Shishido started walking towards one of the benches stepping up on it and then on the back of it, fingers threaded through the fence behind it. His back was to the entrance now as he tried to balance where he stood. "He's got five more minutes."

Ryoga wasn't totally prepared when Shishido told him to meet him. He was rushing around his apartment to make himself look decent. Unfortunately he was taking too long. When he finished he rushed out, down the stairs, out of the building and to the courts. He was probably going to be late as usual. He just hoped Shishido was actually there. When he got there he looked around and found Shishido a moment later. Thankful, he made his way over to him.

As quiet as he tried to be Shishido could still hear him come up into the tennis area, "You're late." Shishido refused to face him at the moment, he was still pretty angry with Ryoga.

It wouldn't do though to stay up high, the idiot might say something that could result in falling off of the bench. That was something he wasn't going to even think about allowing to happen. Shishido stepped back down onto the seat and off of the bench entirely, hands going in his pockets as he looked up at the sky. What little he could see through the tree branches and city lights was comforting, "So what is it exactly you couldn't say on those damned computers."

A hand went through his hair. Once, twice, almost a third time but he stopped himself, rubbing the back of his neck instead. He'd never done this before but after watching many movies he knew it wasn't right to say this over something such as the computer. Where did he start though? He couldn't just blurt the words out. He had to give maybe a kind of warning about what he was going to say first. But really? How to start?

"Um..." Oh what a lovely way to start. That sounded pathetic. He sighed before starting again. "This might be a little out of the blue... But it's something I've been letting slip recently... Unintentionally and intentionally. And... I give you permission to punch me in the face after I say it. I know you'll want to..." He trailed off momentarily, waiting to see if Shishido would do or say anything first.

At 'letting slip' he stiffened, oh great. He was beginning to hope this wasn't going where it was most likely going. Shishido did like the part where he got to punch Ryoga if he didn't like it. Then again if Ryoga knew that Shishido would want to punch him then it really wasn't going where he would like.

That was when the other trailed off and Shishido looked over his shoulder at him, "...Are you gonna spit it out or not." The brunette sighed and looked down at the ground as he turned, walking towards the entrance, "If you're not then I'm going back inside. It's still too cold for this shit." Granted Kururu had told him to have a five minute conversation with someone every day that wasn't her. And it had to be half of the conversation coming from him, that part was extremely irritating.

Ryoga watched the shorter man as he started walking away. Not good. Especially since Ryoga was determined to say this one thing that he felt he could not keep quiet about any longer. It had to be now.

"Shishido," he did something then he normally wouldn't, he grabbed Shishido's arm to stop him. And he wasn't sure how wise that was since Shishido was already mad at him but he didn't care. "I'm serious about this. So stop, listen and look at me for a moment."

Okay that was irritating, he really hadn't plan on going far. Just far enough that he was outside of the very tempting range to punch Ryoga square in the face. Shishido jerked his arm free and turned to face him, flinging his own arms up slightly, "What. I'm looking. What is it."

He heard that annoying voice twittering in his head, reminding him of what he had seen and heard the past few days. That was so not it. Was it? Here he was second guessing himself, glaring at the guy who had caused all this chaos recently in his life. Especially since coming here. Shishido jammed his hands back in his pockets. "Would it kill you to hurry?"

It was obvious Shishido was impatient. Either he knew what was coming and didn't give a damn or he really didn't know at all and just wanted to get out of there. The last thought irritated Ryoga a little. But now he had his full attention at least. He stared at him for a moment, cheeks going slightly pink. No more waiting. The time was now. "Shishido... I like you."

He pretty much froze right where he was standing, then he blinked twice. A blush might have started on his own face as he remembered there was such a thing as breathing, Shishido started muttering, "What was that."

It really didn't make sense to him because he was the last person that Ryoga should like, "You mean as a person. Right." There was hardly room for objection in his speech for it to be anything else. Shishido didn't think he wanted it to be anything else. Yet he was probably striking out again, lady luck had left him for the moment and this was not a good sign right before a tournament.

"Gekidasa." Shishido looked up at him with a deadpan expression, any hint of a blush that had been was gone, "You're shitting me right?"

That was definitely not the kind of reaction he was expecting. Ryoga would have felt a hell of a lot better if Shishido had just punched him. Still, if he was going to make it work right he could not get mad at Shishido right now. He stared at him for a moment then he sighed. "I really do like you. If you can't accept that it's fine."

As he ran a hand through his hair he thought, What the hell am I talking about? It's not fine. I want him to accept it.

"........."

Well shit.

Shishido ran a hand through his own hair and looked off to the right. He couldn't deal with this like he'd done with Choutaroh, the broken puppy-dog that followed him around for weeks after that was so not worth the experience again. Instead he laughed, it started out as a chuckle then into a laugh like he hadn't done in ages. As abruptly as it started it stopped and he looked back at Ryoga.

"You're right," the smile from the laugh was still on his face, "I do want to punch you."

Ryoga's expression changed to one of slight confusion. Was his confession really that hilarious or had Shishido finally cracked? It didn't matter though as he realized he really liked the guy's laugh. Really. He did. He almost grinned from hearing it but didn't when he heard Shishido's words. So was he going to punch him then? Ryoga wondered if he should move away from him. True, he had said Shishido could punch him but now that he thought about it he didn't want anymore bruises. Especially on his face.

And he also wanted to know where exactly this was going.

He quickly sobered up, the same old blank look on his face. Shishido drew back his hand already in a fist and punched Ryoga in the chest. It wasn't a strong one at all and made him wonder where the heck all his strength had gone. The brunette glared for a moment at his own fist when he withdrew it, "Do I have to say anything back or can I just go?"

Granted he didn't want to leave with no answer as that was ruder than he was normally. The only answer that Shishido could give him right now was that he hated him for being annoying and always bugging him. Especially the bed thing that was the worst right now for him and so foremost in his mind. But then again Ryoga was a better opponent than Mukahi on the courts. This week away from the apartment building was just what he needed.

The weak punch surprised Ryoga. He thought Shishido would definitely hit him harder. Why didn't he? It didn't matter though. At least Ryoga wouldn't have to worry about any bruises now.

He blinked at the question, "Uh..." Yes. Of course you have to answer. "No... It's alright. You don't have to say anything." So what did that mean exactly? That Ryoga had no chance? Hell, they weren't even friends. And there was also the fact that Shishido hated him. Of course he had no chance.

But really, what was that weak punch about?

Shishido nodded and walked towards the entrance again, "I won't be here for a week." It was getting colder again, the weatherman did say something about snow. "You can wait that long."

The brunette stuck his hands further in and raised his shoulders, "This is gonna be a long ass week." He was muttering to himself now as he tried to ignore the eyes staring at his back. And he knew that Kururu was going to be asking him what he went out for and why was he in a grouchy mood. Maybe he'd go out for a drink instead... The thought paused him right at the entrance.

Ryoga didn't say anything in return. He just watched him. Shishido told him he could wait. Did that mean he'd get a reply when Shishido came back? A little hopeful Ryoga started walking. He was going to go back to his apartment but his path was suddenly blocked by Shishido stopping. He stared blankly at the back of the other's head.

He felt his presence behind him, just standing there and not demanding he move like Ryoga normally would. Or as Shishido would normally. He looked over his shoulder up at the taller man for a moment, he definitely needed a drink. Without a word to Ryoga he started walking again his footsteps clearly taking him somewhere other than the apartment building.

Deciding it was definitely best not to follow, Ryoga continued on heading back toward the building. Maybe he'd stop at the cafe before going to his apartment.
