Vile/Dynamo: Complete crack, but entirely too much fun.

*waves* Newbie here. Hopefully this'll help me get writing again because I haven't been doing anything on the writing front lately.

Disclaimer: I’m playing with Capcom’s toys and shall return them once I’m finished.
Warning: The very nature of this pairing shoots down the timeline and spits on its charred remains, so this entire challenge is AU. That does not mean characterization goes out of the window. I ask that you read it with ‘what if?’ in mind, but if there’s something you absolutely cannot ever see them doing, ever, then TELL ME before you hit the back button in disgust, because if I don’t know my crimes I can’t improve.

The cool night air was pleasant against his artificial skin as Dynamo hummed a random tune to himself. Sigma’s latest death had put a lull in the fighting, even if he seemed to have bribed whatever deity liked Zero so much if the constant reappearances were anything to go by. For most people this came as a relief, but for Dynamo it meant long periods of no work. Well, it wasn’t that bad, actually, because Vile wasn’t doing anything either. It also gave him more opportunities to do what he was doing now; just sitting back and relaxing. He’d never looked, really looked, at the sky’s spectacular nightly show, and he had some catching up to do.

“What are you doing out here? It’s cold.” Dynamo glanced up at the dark figure looming over him and gestured for Vile to sit down.

“I’m thinking. And how often do you see this?” he made a wide sweep with his arm, indicating the expansive stars above. Vile made a ‘tch’ sound but sat down anyway, Dynamo knowing that his eyes were rolling in the safety of his dark helmet. He’d never seen Vile without it, not once, which if anything showed what a worrying lack of progress he was making. That concerned him sometimes, although it could hardly be his fault due to having other things to concentrate on previously, such as not getting himself killed. Besides, he was perfectly content to wait it out. He was dead if he tried anything Vile didn’t like so there was no point worrying, right?

“It’s just the sky. Come inside.” It was half a request and half a demand. He mildly wondered what would happen if he tried to pout, but decided against it. Pouting was not his strong point, and he did have some dignity. It was his personal motto: “I’ll do anything, but I won’t do that.” It left a handy loophole and gave him wriggle room in the event of an over demanding client who thought that ‘mercenary’ meant ‘cannon fodder,’ which was depressingly often these days. He stood up, an insane idea suddenly coming into his head.

“Hey, Vile. Hypothetically speaking, let’s say someone takes your helmet off and kisses you. How long does he have to live?”

A long, long silence. Well, really, how are you supposed to answer a question like that? Vile stood up and walked away, pausing at the door and looking back before disappearing inside.

“That...depends.”

Well, Dynamo hadn’t been expecting that as an answer. Maybe he wasn’t doomed after all, he mused, giving the endless sky one last glance as he turned and followed Vile. He just needed more time, and he was in no rush. Patience is a virtue, right? He’d wait, just as the stars did for the coming of the dawn.
