†Fidelis ad mortem†
To my dear Adair,
Your father and I found the perfect wife for you. She’s only ten but she’s just the cutest thing ever! Please retire and come back home soon. I hear wedding bells!
Love,
Mama
Mother… Adair rubbed his forehead to ease the migraine he felt coming on after reading the four sentence letter. Was it really so difficult to ask if he was happy and content with his life before announcing that they wanted him to marry a little girl?
Groaning, he set the parchment aside to continue correcting his captain’s paperwork. He would think of a reply later.
---
To my dear Adair,
Don’t trust little girls, they’ll rob you blind! Come back here and help your father with his work. We need money and hot guys bring in the most cash!
Love,
Mama
With his eyebrow twitching, the knight once again set the paper aside and grabbed his pen to work on more pressing matters.
---
To my dear Adair,
What a wonderful day! The clouds are shining, the sun is white, and freshly cut wood smells so tasty~
Love,
Mama
P.S. Adair, you’re mother is very sick. Please come home soon.
Love,
Papa
Three times the charm, he thought bitterly. This time he was left with no choice but to return home because when his mother got sick, she would often hallucinate and it took more than just his father to care for her. In addition, his father would most likely be working overtime to rake in as much money as he could after the robbery.
With a sigh, he pushed himself off the chair. Walking tiredly to the door, he set off to inform his captain about the unfortunate news.

A/N: Adair’s mama, what the hell did you just do?! You used your sick and hallucinate mind to give this fic a plot! Now I have to write it! (That's right! This was never supposed to be born!)
Knocking three times, Adair readjusted the small tray in his grasp. He waited, almost apprehensively, for his captain’s acknowledgement. When none came, he knocked again… and again… and, “Captain! Please wake up, it’s already noon!” he sobbed pitifully. Perhaps he was feeling too anxious about his mother’s health.
It seemed to take forever before his captain allowed him to enter the room. Adair hurriedly did so, setting the tray down on the nightstand table as his captain stared wearily at him with unseeing eyes. “Did I miss an important meeting?” he finally asked as he sat up and snatched the blueberry muffin from the tray.
“No sir.”
“…Undead creatures attacking?”
“No.”
“Then… Did I do something to anger Lesus?”
Adair shook his head with a barely noticeable smile. “I- I need to take some time off to return home. My mother is sick and my father doesn’t have the time to nurse her back to health,” he explained.
Knight-Captain Sun continued nibbling on his muffin with a look of contemplation.
“Alright,” he nodded about a minute later. Adair almost felt shocked that he would be granted leave without any resistance. He also felt sadden that his dear captain would let him go without a fight. Shouldn’t he demand Adair stay so he could manage his paperwork and platoon?
“But I’m coming too,” he stated immediately after. This time it was Adair’s turn to stare.
“Captain?”
“You’re mother’s sick, right? What better than to have the Sun Knight there to ease her poor mind and heal her exhausted body?” He smiled radiantly as he made his excuse.
Adair didn’t believe it for one second. If he read his captain correctly, then his captain was either looking for an escape from something he’d done or wanted some vacation time for himself. The knight quickly deduced that it had to be the first choice, believing that his captain would vacation in his own room if given time off. And traveling was something he avoided at all costs.
Now Adair wouldn’t mind the company of his captain as he traveled but… “What about the Holy Temple? Who would be in charge if both the Sun Knight and his vice-captain are away?”
“I’ll speak to Judgment,” Sun waved a hand offhandedly with a roll of his eyes as if the matter was already dealt with. Afterwards, he greedily took a swig of his milk and Adair had to stifle a laugh as a little trickled down his chin. He was tempted to use his handkerchief to wipe it up like his mother used to.

A/N: You know what? I give up on characterization. At least at the moment. This isn’t a fic I care enough about to worry over. I’ll put OOCness in the Warnings. With this done, I have to continue working on a report that’s due tomorrow. *sighs from exhaustion*
