Each of them had their issues with the world as it is, Gellert thought the Muggles were too well treated, and Albus just wanted to be famous, and felt he was much more worthy of fame than some of the people who graced the covers of books at Flourish and Blotts.
They were quite sure they could change the world. Together, they would observe everything that was wrong with the world and plan how they would correct it. It just needed a little cleverness, a little sophistication.
