Still D.R.E.

i have officially confirmed that the Disc Read Error that my PS3 has been crippled by is in fact due to a dirty lens. not a broken blu-ray drive.

"how" you ask? simple. put a blu-ray disc in, watch it not load, and then take it out.

since its a slot loading system, as opposed to a tray, the disc will always slide in and out in the same position. if the drive itself is dead, then the disc will not, and cannot spin. if it is simply the lens being dirty, the disc WILL spin.

MGS4 spun. CoDWAW spun. SFIV spun. none of them read.

i am attributing this to my smoking. smoke = film. therefor, i dont want to use maxells BR cleaner. it simply removes dust. i also dont want to use anything with a brush. brushes are very bad for both slot loaded drives, and BR lenses themselves: it knocks them out of alignment.

im either going to have to manually clean it, or simply *try* the maxell cleaner.

and with my interview for apple today at 230, i just may wind up having the money to try that in the not so distant future!
