„Cynthia, please send Mr. Kort in,“ Jenny said, pressing the button of the intercom.
She sat down behind her desk that was, as usual, hidden below huge stacks of paper, and she sighed.
She‘d never imagined that she would end up behind one of these desks one day, playing a person with authority that frightens everyone who has to enter her office.
She wanted to be out there, doing something good, working with people instead of paper.

Jenny still didn‘t know what had happened that day when she‘d accepted to take this job. It was not that she hated everything she did, but sometimes she just wished that she‘d made different choices along the way...

When the door opened, Jenny straightened her back. This wasn‘t the time nor the place for regrets. She had a job do.
„Good morning, director,“ her visitor said, standing at the open door as if he wasn‘t sure if she should come in or better leave. Jenny knew this behavior all too well and she hated it. It always made her feel like she was some kind of scary monster and this room was her cage people were brought in to die.
She sighed.
„Mr. Kort, please come in,“ she said, waving her visitor in. „Take a seat.“
She watched him close the door and couldn‘t help but checking him out. He wasn‘t good looking in a classic way but there was something interesting about him that made her heart beat faster. She couldn‘t say what exactly it was that send these hot and cold shivers through her body but she definitely liked it. Maybe it was this charming smile or the ill-fitting suit that made him look so much younger than he actually must have been. Or his eyes that now looked at her so openly and friendly (no longer frightened or intimidated by her job or this office).
Or maybe it was the whole package that made this man kind of perfect.

Jenny smiled.
Being a grade school director had its disadvantages but meeting men like him to discuss their kid‘s grades was definitely a bonus; especially if these men were single dads who talked with annoyingly sexy British accents.

„What can I do for you?“ Jenny asked but she was definitely not thinking about what she could do for him now (and here) but later - over dinner, maybe - or even much later ...

- The End -
