Summary: Spencer takes Lizzie home with him, and cuteness ensues.
Once Spencer had gotten the approval of the agency, he realized that his apartment may not be quite child friendly. He had firearms, and boring books strewn about. As he unlocked the door, with Elizabeth at his side, her small finger clinging to his belt loop, he tried to figure out what he could do, that wouldn't make his home so intimidating for the little girl. “Here we are...” He said quietly, getting the door open.
He watched Elizabeth enter the apartment, and he took in her reaction. She studied everything, lightly running her little fingers over his books on psychology, mathematics, and languages. At length, she turned to him. “Is Mama in big trouble?”
Spencer sighed inwardly. He had been expecting that question, but not yet. He squatted to her level. “Not yet.” He said. “It depends on what my friends find out about Jessie.” He stood. “Let's get you settled, okay?” He took her by the hand gently, and led her into the room that was currently serving as his storage facility. “You can sleep on the bed here, okay?”
“Okay.” Lizzie didn't seem too happy with his response to her question, but there really wasn't much he could do for that. If her mother had done anything to her elder daughter, or was an accomplice to the person who had done it, there was no way of knowing if Elizabeth was going to return home to her life, or not. “Do you have milk?” The child asked then.
Spencer brightened. Finally, something he could handle. “Sure do. Do you want some chocolate in it?”
“I'm allergic to chocolate.” Lizzie said. “Do you have strawberry?”
“Unfortunately, not right now. But I can get us some tomorrow, alright?”
He turned, heading towards the kitchen. “Do you want anything to eat?” The agent couldn't remember how long ago it had been since they'd attempted to feed the girl.
“Spaghetti Os?” She asked, her tone hopeful. “Louisa never makes those for me.”
She was really living the high life, Spencer thought, not even a can Spaghetti Os once in a while? He turned to face the girl, halfway down the hall. “Well, we've got to fix that, don't we?” Spence held out his hand, and was rewarded with Lizzie running to it, and taking it. Her fingers curled up in his, trustingly. He smiled down at her. Well, planned or not, this parenting thing was feeling rewarding already.
