Buffalo is good. I love the punk scene here and all the people. Everyone in the punk scene at least that hang around Custer are open and genuinely nice. The bands that come through are the same way and everyone appreciates what they have for the most part. I'm working on really getting to know the people I meet, though sometimes I get discouraged it's working out.
Everywhere I want to go isn't so far away with the bus/rail pass and I recognize the neighborhoods like they are home. Elmwood, Main/Custer, and Elicott Streets are becoming like home's Wescott, Armory Square and Erie. I missed my bus last night and walked home a couple miles but it wasn't so bad. I practiced the sign alphabet I learned that night at Custer.
I feel the same as home in the sense that I have many acquaintances and friends but I feel left out of true bonds outside of group settings. I'm working on it though. Especially some of the kids at Custer like Benji and Trevor are super inclusive even though their bond is evident.
The roommate Candace and I get along well, go to bed and get up at the same time and often eat together. It's good to eat with friends from different groups because they end up talking about things they wouldn't usually if they were with the same old people. Today Dave, Candace and I sat with Judy who I had met at lunch a few weeks ago. She is originally from Ghana and has many opinions on Americans. A great conversation started up and I was happy to see Dave get into it. Activists will win over apathy!
I do like having Matt Cole here in Buffalo because it's nice to have a familiar old face turn to. I'd never really talked to Chris from Magic Goat but since he has come up twice for ska shows we've started talking a lot. Billy Pruz surprised me by coming to the Against Me show on Sunday and it was really great seeing him. I miss home, but I love it here too.
I just want to come home to participate in all the activism and new things happening. Like SARO, finding a venue for the DIY Collective and helping Danny with ska shows. Here in Buffalo though I havn't forgotten to get involved though. I am active in NYPIRG, The Pride Alliance, and Students for Peace.I'll be happy to see some people on Columbus day weekend. It doesn't hurt I'll get to see Bane, Comeback Kid and This is Hell.
I can't wait until I get to see Adam and Alex again though, I hope when we all have break we'll get together. Being away from them only serves to extenuate how long we've been together, since kindergarden. We're all growing and getting to do things we've always talked about. I suppose we're a bit unusual because all of us have known what we wanted to do since middle or even elementary school. If you are in Syracuse and reading this you better make plans to see me when I'm home.
