life in maine as of late has been a bit crazy and wild
a storm came over the island for the weekend and i basically lived in my rain coat and boots- then finally on sunday with all the wind and power lines out we lost power on campus- some alarm in our house went off to notify of us of the lack of power, it was not so nice. a bunch of us decided to peace out and head downtown to hit up the cadillac mountain sports store for their huge sale. we piled in my car- 7 of us including myself- noah curled up in my trunk. the power was out at the stores- apparently the whole island had lost power. the lack of power did not stop the crazed out door islanders from their shopping, nope we all need gloves, coats and boots for winter- we shopped in the semi dark stores. i bought several fleeces, crocs and a nalgene because my got lost in boston. it was a good time but the wind was still insane and the power still out by the time we got back on campus. that meant no hot food :-) amy and i ate many saltines and peanut butter. the waves were ridiculously awesome too; they were seriously intense and loud and amazing <3 they also ended up closing the bridge to the island because of power lines that were down. so even if we wanted to get to the main land where there might be power and hot food-no. fun times, i'm looking forward to more intense storms, one of the locals informed me it only gets crazier :-)
also fun news- i hit the water this thursday for my first open water dive. i am pretty pumped.
I have a little less then 3 weeks left to this semester before it's done. it's gone by insanely fast, and the reading and paper writing is just beginning to really pick up.
oh lastly- so last night the small houses (peach, ryles and cottage) all got together to have dinner with our new college president David Hales. it was the most awkward and humrous event. he's super awesome and entertaining thankfully but the whole things was just funny because it turned into some sort of 20 question go around. amy and i left as soon as things started to die down- then she spent the night making her muppet puppets. yup amy is super cool and is in a puppet class and makes amazing puppets. it's fun- we have a bunch of puppets in our room and they are uber cute, i'll put a picture up at some point.
ok time to join in coffee and then work
