that doesn't really look like what i remember seeing. it's back is wrong, it has no neck, the red spots on the head are wrong, and the eyes are wrong... but it is pretty. :)
I would say the picture posted above is the most accurate yet, however the head was more oval shaped. Also, the monster had a bit of a neck (or, it's head protruded a bit) and I got the impression that it had shoulders.
It's hard to remember everything since you just get the monster in glimpses, but this is what I remember. I totally did not catch how it's hind legs looked.
Yeah, I'd say they've done a pretty good job on keeping what it looks like a secret since all of the "leaked concept art" doesn't look close to what you get to see in the movie. I'd say the body did look *MUCH* more gorilla-like with abnormally huge shoulders and not as flea-like as the above picture. And you notice, it has the same signature as earlier false concept art pieces.
Even at the end where you get that clear shot of the face, it's hard to figure out what's really going on with it.
For all I could tell they could have had 4 or 5 very different monster models and used a different version on each shot, haha. :) It was definitely quite a unique design.

Not to be too picky, but they're fan-art -- there's nothing "false" about them.
The guy who drew these is a graphic artists who works on games like Guild Wars and produced his sketches on what he thought the monster would look like for FUN! I think probably more than aware that lots of elements of his monster are incorrect. ;)
Not to be picky, but I never said that the artist themself sent their pieces out as "this is actual concept art from the movie", but that everyone that has forwarded links to the art has said "This is *the* concept art of the monster". :)
Once someone realizes the first piece was declared to be fan art, one would assume the rest of his stuff would be fan-art and not actual concept from someone who worked on the movie. Otherwise, it's possible those sketches could have been from an earlier design of the monster that were actually thrown out before deciding on the final design. I'm sure they came up with several different designs before settling on what's in the movie right now too.
It's pretty good and it definitely helps to see someone else's rendering of the monster to piece it together. The image linked to above (labeled by the commenter as concept art from the movie) is pretty close in description
( ... )
I think someone (maybe Matt or JJ?) described, in an interview, that the footage in the electronics store was the monster "scratching its back on a building and the parasites falling off"
so then it would make sense if that was the scene where we see it's butt, but think it's the belly, cause it might be rearing up a bit. i do remember that in that scene the news had both cameras up in the air and on the ground.
i just saw it for the second time, and i was looking for what you described... i think i may have seen an anus right below the tail, almost like any other animal. i don't remember quite when i saw it, but the monster had just turned away from the camera.
