Bombay Sweets and Simple Life

I remember reading somewhere that the lines of R K Narayan's first novel on Malgudi was actually inspired by Mysore; a small town with large boulevards, laid-back lifestyle, strong coffee and simple people.  And I looked with this opinion at Mysore.  But when we reached there and got conned several times near the city centre by three-wheeler ( Read more... )

Each city somewhat retains this side in few localities. In what I have seen, Bombay and Calcutta have the maximum of such localities.

They prefix Bombay because they spun off from the erstwhile, more famous Bombay Indrabhavan(a hotel called Indrabhavan still exists in that place run by their relatives) and these people too are mostly related to older hotel owners.

I am told that it was customary for the final year students at Maharaja's College(where RK Narayan and his siblings studied too...) to have class socials with food sourced from Bombay Indrabhavan, I think it was too featured in one of his novels, probably, in Bachelor of Arts.

I had visited Mysore ages ago some where in 1993, yes the thought of Mysore does remind me about malgudi, When i saw it the first time it was really clean, i felt it was the most well planned city.... Nice Pictures.
