27 - Go to an event at the Burswood Dome - Simon & Garfunkel on 2 JulyI bought tickets as a mother's day present for Mom. I thought it might be kind of sad, since they're now 67 and I doubted they would sound much like they did in their younger years, but they did and it wasn't ( Read more... )

Very sorry to hear about the cria. Especially after your effort.

We didn't go through the getting up with Ros every few hours thing, since she was past that stage when we got her, but I did help raise a litter of kittens in uni when their mom got sick. It was weeks of making sure they were fed and cleaned every three hours. Fortunately there were five of us in the apartment to share the chores, but it was still exhausting. Worth it, though.

The kittens grew up totally thinking they were people. Not helped by the fact that their mom, no doubt recognizing a good thing when she saw it, rejected them after she recovered.

Weeks of every three hours, even divided by five, sounds exhausting indeed!

The kittens grew up totally thinking they were people.

This can be a big problem with alpacas and many hand-reared males grow up to be dangerous. Some breeders recommend that if you have to bottle-feed a cria long-term, you do it through a fence with a piece of carpet (with a hole cut in it) preventing you from direct contact with it, and virtually everybody recommends that you minimise touching and handling. Otherwise you can end up with an animal that will try to mount you, throw you to the ground, etc!

Z, I am so sorry to read about your loss. I hope you never have to bury a cria ever again.

I'm glad that the Simon and Garfunkle concert was good, and how lovely that they have renewed their friendship. Did they perform 'El Condor Pasa'? I adore that song. I think I would have teared up upon hearing 'Bright Eyes'

It is interesting the different things people latch onto, with S3 Torchwood. I am haunted by the ethical questions raised, and yes, omg, the aliens were the most creepy and horrific ones possibly EVER I have seen.

Yes, it's been a bad run with the cria this year! But as another breeder told me, "it's a numbers game", meaning you will definitely lose some.

No El Condor Pasa! They have so many great songs that they could only do a sprinkling.

I won't forget those aliens any time soon.

Yes, Frobisher, and also an excellent performance from the man who narrowly escaped being taken the first time around.

Yes, true. I had positive memories of him as Stubbs in the Hornblower movies!

Sorry about your young ones. :(

But glad you enjoyed TW! I am actually skipping S3, don't need the trauma. :)

There is definitely a fair amount of trauma involved, and it would be greatly magnified if it was a fandom you were really invested in!

(Interesting about the blue light - just saw your post. I store things like that for future reference!)
