My Mother is Sexist

Hi Kay-tee, it's Ay-mee. Yes, once you get married, the world at large expects you to completely change yourself into your proper role as "female," and women are the worst when it comes to criticizing other women's choices, especially when it doesn't mirror their own (insecure anyone?). From our group of friends at college, one of them actually did this - once she became married, it was like a light switch was flipped and she became a "good female" who "obeyed" her husband. The rest of us thought this was disturbing because she had changed so much over the course of a few months, and it was uncomfortable to be around. I don't know if you remember or not, but when I was finishing up at Western and knew I was going to be moving to New York for grad school, I got some shit from Mom and Grandma Verne about moving to NY by myself, and they suggested I find a husband so that a man could accompany me. Wow, I don't remember that whole drama at all. They seriously thought you should find a husband in a few months and take him off to New York with you? I am laughing out loud. Why is this crap always so much funnier when it's directed at other people?
