I need something remotely francophone. Does anyone have any suggestions for Montreal, specifically on what to do/see and how many days (1 or 2) you'd recommend? I'm on a very tight budget, and any other tips would also be appreciated.

[Edit: WHAT!? USD < Canadian Dollar? >O!!!!!]

There's very little to do on a budget in Montreal I'm afraid - especially with the exchange rate. The art museum is very good, if you go in the summer there's a river-walk type area that's very nice with a lot of stuff going on. The botanical gardens are fantastic and the Biodome is pretty cool too. I can recommend a few excellent resturants - they've some of the best ethnic food around. Wandering St Cathrine street is always fun, but there's nothing really to do inexpensivly. Je suis desole!

I'm planning on going for a few days in spring break, so not really during the summer.
Can you recommend any historical stuff? Would you suggest 1 or 2 days?
And that list of some nice but not too budget-breaking restaurants would be nice. :)

Old Town is lovely but for real 'history' you're better off in Quebec City. Let me get back to you with some resturant names but my fav is Brasierie Holder - but it's not cheap.

Unfortunately, there are no buses from Boston to Quebec City. I'll look into going to Quebec City for the second day if it's not too far, because that'll be cutting it rather close.

I talked to Prof. Sequiera, and I'm going to go for 2 days seeing as she recommended 3, but I'm really not willing to spend that many days away.

So I'm definitely going, and I'll be staying the night. :) Quite exciting, although the 'rents aren't happy--again--about my traveling alone. And I thought Canada is safer than the US. I thought I showed them that I could take care of myself with 13 days alone in Italy when I don't speak a drop of Italian; I can speak English quiet fluently and I can at least understand French. I know parents will be parents and worry, but still, I thought I did better at showing them that I can take care of myself. *sigh*
