Me, I like diversity, including as an editor. Noticing an author or content outside the usual range always gave me a little squee. Partly that's because I just like diversity, but also because I figured it would boost our chances of reaching new readers. I still do it with my signal boosting, because I know that work by under-represented creators tends to get less exposure and needs more. And whitewashing entertainment tends to make stuff that sucks.
