Chapter 3 Noon always arrives to soon.
Suddenly he turned around before walking out of the door.
“Kamenshi Kazuya..” He said. The other man, still watching him, smiled.
“Yamashita Tomohisa.”
Kame looked back one more time before entering the cab. He smiled. He would definitely come back tomorrow after work. “Yamashita Tomohisa ka?” Kame smiled again, oblivious to the fact that the cabdriver had already asked him twice where he wanted to go. “Hey man do you want to go somewhere or should I throw you out?” Kame looked at the driver. “Aah sorry. I wasn’t paying attention.” “Understatement of the year.” The driver mumbled under his breath. Kame just smiled and gave him the address. They past the company where he worked and chuckled. He had walked to the complete opposite direction.
A short half hour later and he was standing at his apartment. He took his keys, opened the door and walked inside. He turned on the lights. The couch looked cosy and he slumped down on it with a loud sigh. He stared into nothing and smiled again. “Yamashita Tomohisa ka?” He said again more of a statement than a question. They hadn’t talked much but the man had been forever engraved into his memory. And Kame knew that he wanted to get to know this man. It gotten dark in front of his eyes and he fell asleep.
Something was making a noise. It was loud, it was annoying. Kame turned around and suddenly fell. “Ouchh..” He groaned and rubbed the part of his head that had just met the ground. He looked at the couch and frowned. Why was he sleeping on the couch? It came to him soon. He had been so tired that he didn’t even make it to his bedroom. The noise had stopped at least Kame thought it had but a few seconds later it started again. “Aaah my cellphone.” He put a hand in the pocket of his suit jacket and found the source of the noise. “Moshi moshi..” He mumbled. “KAME!” The loud voice of Jin was on the other side of the line. Kame rubbed his head again. “is there any reason to shout this early in the morning?” he asked. “Early? Ha you’re kidding me. It’s already noon. The boss is pissed. You’ve missed an important meeting.” Kame looked at the clock and gasped. “Oh my god.!! I’M COMING!” “You’d better be..” Jin said and hung up. The brown haired man ran to his bedroom to change. He wasn’t able to wear the same suit since that would insinuate that he hadn’t spend the night at home. 5 minutes later he ran out of the door to the bus stop.
‘I’m really sorry sir..” He bowed. “It won’t happen again.!” He looked through his bangs to his boss, who was rubbing his temples. “If something happens again you will get fired Kamenashi-san. This is the second time I see you in my office in only two days!” Kame bowed again. “I’m sorry. I promise it won’t happen again.” “Out of my office.” The scary man said and Kame fled the room. Suddenly an arm wrapped around him. “Is my darling Kazuya still alive?” Kame pushed Jin away. “stupid! Why couldn’t you call me sooner. Why didn’t you call 5 minutes past 9?” Junno came out of nowhere and stood next to Kame. “Actually we hadn’t noticed you weren’t here until the meeting came.” “What??” Kame was shocked to say the least. “And you are supposed to be my friends?” Kame tssked and walked away. “I’m sorry Kazu-chan!!” Jin said dramatically. “I’m sorry!!! I was busy with my own work and that’s why I hadn’t noticed you weren’t here. But from now on all I will do is walking behind your ass to make sure you are on time. I hope you have a double bed.” Junno chuckled. “That’s a good one Jin..” Jin frowned at the tall man. “Right..”
Kame placed all the papers he needed at home in his briefcase and closed it. He sighed. He hated his work. He hated it. And he hated his boss. He has never ever been late in his entire life. Yesterday was the first time in his life that the client didn’t get the documents they needed, even though they actually did receive them, 2 little mistakes and his boss had already threatened to fire him. Twice! It was unfair. Jin stood behind him. “Kazu-chan! Let’s go out.” He whined. “It’s Friday after all. We gotta celebrate the weekend.” “Sorry can’t..” “That’s what you always say.” Kame smiled. “and I’m saying it again. Ja” He took his briefcase and walked towards the elevator. “Hold it please..” Someone yelled and in reflex Kame did. A man with a happy smile on his lips entered the elevator. “Thanks.. Aah you’re Kamenashi-san aren’t you?” Kame nodded. “Do I know you?” “Aah I’m so sorry I’m Masuda Takahisa my colleague made such trouble for you..” The man said and bowed. “Ah so you’re Masuda-san? Don’t bow.. really I’m not mad.” Kame really wasn’t. Actually he was quite in a good mood. “aah thanks..” Masuda whispered. The elevator arrived and Kame left with a soft goodbye to the other man. He started to walk to the opposite direction of his house and smiled.
After a short 10 minutes he found the bar with the sign at the door again. He opened the door and walked inside. The bell jingled and a familiar “Irrasshaimase…” was heard. The man behind the bar looked up and smiled. “Aah Kamenashi-san. Lost again?” Kame chuckled. “How did you know I was lost yesterday?” “because I have never seen you here before yesterday.” “Well I’m not lost today..” Yamashita said and smiled at the man. “Then, can I get you something to drink.” Kame smiled at the bartender. “A beer please.” He said and sat down at a stool by the bar. The bartender tapped the beer into a glass and placed it in front of his customer. “How was your day Kamenashi-san?” “Just Kame is fine..” Kame said before continuing. “Actually… It sucked. My boss threatened to fire me again.” He took a large sip of his beer. “again? That must mean that he threatened you before. Why?” And Kame told him the whole story. Why his boss wanted to fire him and how he arrived here. Yamashita chuckled once in a while. “It was so unfair..” Kame drunk more of the cool beer. “Ne yamashita-san. How old are you?” One eyebrow raised but the bartender still smiled. “Why do you want to know?” “Well we seem like the same age.. So I wondered if I was right or that you look younger than you actually are..” “Depends..” “Depends on what?” “Depends on how old you are..” “Oh I’m 26.” “Then you’re not right..” “I’m not?” Yamashita chuckled. “No..” “Oh..” “Cause I’m 27..” “Wha…? That’s the same age!” Kame chuckled. “No it’s not. Otherwise I would be 26 but I’m a year older..” Pi smirked. “Ne.. why did your friend call you Pi?” Kame suddenly asked. Yamashita’s smile faltered a bit and looked down. He placed the glass that he was drying on the bar. “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to ask something so personal..” “no it’s alright..” Yamashita smiled at the man. “A friend nicknamed me like that… Since I like the colour pink a lot. He started to call me Yamapink but shortened it to Yamapi.. Now they call me Yamapi or just plain Pi..” Kame nodded. “I see.. was it Ryo-san?” Yamashita smiled and shook his head. “No it was another friend, Hideaki Takizawa.. or Tackey as we called him..” Pi smirked and took Kame’s glass, filling it with some more beer. Kame smiled. “Can I call you Yamapi?” Yamashita smiled. “Of course..” Kame smiled and it was silent for a while.
“At least your nickname is cool. I mean Kame means turtle! That’s not cool at all.”
Yamashita smiled.
“I think It’s cute..”
