Of all the random calls from my parents I've ever received - and I've received a lot - the most random is probably the one I just had from my mom.

(J is me, M is my mom.)

J: Hello ( Read more... )

wtf

*rolls* I have actually made this phone call! T and I had an argument in the car re: names of characters in the TMNT and had to call another friend to resolve it.

Haha, except I don't think that's the case with my mom; I mean, I'm fairly certain all she knows about the TMNT is that they are, in fact, mutant turtles who happen to be teenaged ninjas, so I don't think she was calling to verify a bit of canon or something...bobthetrout suggested maybe she was doing a "which TMNT are you" online quiz, but since I can't imagine anything she'd be less likely to do, I'm still mystified. XD

I think that may just be the movie; I remember in the cartoon, at least, there were flashbacks and stuff to Splinter being human? I could be wrong, though; I'm long past my TMNT phase (which ended about the time I stopped participating in the Book-It program, lol).

I just wikied because I wanted to know and both origins are right. He was a pet rat in the comics and in the cartoon he was a man mutated into a rat.

God, what a nolstagia flashback.

Now I am imagining that your mom is playing Splinter in a feminist version of TMNT, for the stage, of course. And maybe it's a musical. *plots*

Haha, that would have been amusing; sadly, the truth turned out to be something much less interesting (one of the young Latino poets in the Latino Writers Collective said, in a very nice way, that if they were the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles then she'd be their Splinter XD).

I love this. A lot. Mostly, because I pretended that Splinter and I were dating when I was in kindergarten. Our affair was somewhat complicated because Smart (from Get Smart) and the Professor (from Little Women) were competing for my attention. Ultimately, I think I chose Smart, but I had to oust Agent 99 first. Now, I'd pretty much go after Darcy. (Have we had this conversation before?)

I don't think we've had this conversation before but clearly we should have! Also, I love that you went for the Professor rather than Laurie (the fact that I had to wiki for his name probably means I need to reread it; the last time I read I was 5 and cried when Beth died, and I haven't been able to bring myself to reread it since).

And who wouldn't pick Maxwell Smart in the end? After all, he had a fricking SHOE PHONE. End of discussion!
