Another Update (#3) on "Supernatural" Viewing

Jul 17, 2015 01:23

I've decided I'd better number my posts giving my thoughts on Supernatural as I view season one on DVDs. This is my third--one and two are my previous entries--and it covers disc three in the set. Included are episodes titled Home, Asylum, Scarecrow and Faith. My thoughts are under the cut.

Home has one of my favorite moments in it...when Dean calls their dad and says,"There's something in our old house..." and his voice breaks and just...breaks my heart that moment. Missouri is in my top five fav guest characters on the show. They wanted her back a few seasons later but the actress had gotten a regular gig on a show ( ... )

Yes, Dean calling John was heartbreaking. I wonder what show Missouri was doing and if she's still doing it.

Does Meg come back later in the series? I guess she must if her "father" is involved.

Oh, Kat would be a wonderful character about which to write a series. Have there been any real spinoffs from Supernatural?

I never watched The XFiles, but I intend to watch it when the new series starts because I now know who Gillian Anderson is (thanks to The Fall and Hannibal) and I want to see her.

Yes, disc three is a favorite of mine so far, too. Someone told me her favorite scary episode is Provenance, on disc five, so I'm looking forward to seeing that. Need to watch disc four first though.

It was me that said my favorite scary ep is Provenance!! Creepy little girl ghost! (Put a little kid in a white nightgown or dress and I am freaked out!)

Meg is around for this season and then comes back a few seasons later, but played by a different actress.

There was a test pilot for a SPN spinoff set in Chicago. It didn't take. The problem there was that it was about a bunch of new, previously unheard of characters that old regular SPN fans had never heard of and thus didn't care about. I believe there is currently talks about doing another one, based off of a female sheriff character from the later seasons (who I quite loved!) and perhaps some other character from the last season (I am unsure as I stopped watching after s9). But I do think a spinoff with characters we already know and love is a much better idea than what they tried the first time.

I don't believe Missouri currently has a show - Idk what that actress is up to. They should totally have her back on!

Oh, OK. So many people are telling me things that I can't keep them all straight.

Interesting a bout the SPN spinoff that didn't work. I can see why. If viewers don't care about the cast and characters, a show won't work.

Why didn't you watch season 10? I'm surprised because you seem to be a very dedicated fan of the show and others say it was a good season.

Yes, I'd like to see Missouri come back, too. Maybe she will some day. Never say never.

All of these episodes are just spectacular <3

Home - yes! I can never watch for that garbage disposal scene :P That scene between Sam and Dean when Sam insists they have to go home is very touching. And Dean calling Dad at the gas station :'(

I agree with everything you said.

Mary saying "I'm sorry" to Sam - you will find out why in Season 4.

oooh, supense. I'm looking forward to season four because that's when Cristiel first appears, right? I really like Misha.

Faith was actually hard for me to watch for the first half a dozen times I watched it LOL

LOL I would think you could get over anything if you watched it six times. :)

I'm very impressed with the dialog on this show, especially between Sam and Dean. It's so good.

Agreed. This is a very well-written show. Well, except for seasons 6 and 7, I'm told.

I love Missouri, too. I wish she could return to the show. Home is such a great ep. I love that they went back to where it all began, and that we learn about Sam's visions.

Scarecrow was a scary ep, and the first major separation of the boys. But we get to see Sam rescue Dean (and tell Meg that he has to go back, cause Dean isn't answering his phone). And there's the great line "Hold me, Sam". :D

Yes, Faith is so awesome. Sam's love for his brother really shines in this ep.

I know the actress who plays Meg leaves the show at some point, but I was happy to see that Rachel Miner is her replacement. I like her.

Sam's love for his brother really shines in this ep.

Their love for each other shines in a lot of the episodes. It's an undercurrent running thoughout the entire show.

I totally agree, and that's what made me fall in love with the show. With Faith, Sam love for Dean stood out for me, because after all the tension between the brothers in the previous two eps, it was wonderful to see Sam doing all he could to try and save his brother. And of course, Dean's love for Sam is very much there in Faith, too.

Home is a wonderful mix of humour, classic 'horror' filming, and the start of digging deeper into the boys' psyches. Missouri is fabulous, and whenever I hear her name I hear her voice "John Winchester, I could just slap you." *grins*
One thing though, and it's always bugged me, is the woman in the house a widow or a divorcee? We see her looking at her wedding photo in the basement, but it could go either way. Either option would prompt a move, a new job and a fresh start.

Scarecrow, is for me, one of the scariest eps of the early seasons - I despise human effigies, so scarecrows, dolls, puppets, etc *shudder* yeah, just, no. It's also the first(?) time we see the boys separated, and it's not something any of us are willing to contemplate. And Dean still doesn't get to eat pie, lol.

Yay! You got to Faith! :D
Aside from all the wonderful wonderful deep emotion and subplot, I'm going to go shallow and mention...
Dean in Sam's hoodie.
The two boys sitting in the motel room with spread thighs.
