SCAD Side Walk Arts Festival - Part 1

Apr 26, 2009 14:54

Yesterday was Scad's annual Sidewalk Arts Festival at Forsyth Park. I participated for the first time last year, so I was looking forward to this year's as well. Last year I participated in a team effort with two friends and tlockh20 . And it was a lot of fun, but this year I felt like having my own square.

(More under the cut)

It was a pretty hott day, I think 87 degrees, and we started from 11am to 2pm. Last year it rained, so I was at least pleased it didn't rain this year.
I... can't find my camera for some reason, but luckily my roommate was taking part this year too, so I asked her to take a shot for me.

It is supposed to be a teacup growing from a branch of a blue-leafed tree. And tea is pouring out of a hole from the teacup, while children playing around the bottom. Ha, it's really bad, but I'll just do better next year.

tlockh20 had the square next to mine, he went for the underwater theme so he can participate in that portion of the contest. The first photo was taken with my cellphone.

And here are some photos from the festival that my roommate took pictures of.
My roommate's group, working.

Yes, the only media allowed is chalk, but somehow it got around that if you used water and a brush to spread the chalk around, it's like painting!

Their finished piece, Sweeny Todd. Lookit that smile!

Why, yes, it is a big event! There's music played loudly over speakers the whole time, and giant inflatable playing areas for children.
Some more photo's of people's squares.

That was my favorite one that I saw, I'm so glad she got a picture of it.

And some sort of weird dance group... thing...
And for comparison's sake, here's our entry from last year. Unfinished, and unpolished, because of the rain. We decided our theme would be the playing cards.tlockh20
did the Jack of Spades, my friend Carlos did the Ace of Hearts, Nia did the King of Clover, and I did the Queen of Diamonds, and on top of that, our own personal joke with our elements. tlockh20's element is Water, Carlos' is Lightening, Nia's was... grass (Haha, no it's earth, we just liked to make fun of her for it), and mine's fire.

Honestly, i was highly unorganized, but it was a of fun anyway.

After the rain.

But man, does my body ache!
