This piece was really beautiful in its brevity. Not all good things have to come in big packages! This is almost poetry in prose. I like the way you've broken it down into Kazuki then Ginji then knotted it up all balanced. The same with your subject matter, with Kazu's threads and Gin's lightning thing and then how the end is so subtle.
I'm very glad (and rather relieved) to hear you liked it; I'd been hoping to make this ficlet a bit more of a pairing/romantic one, but at the decisive moment, my muses voiced the opinion that Raitei!Ginji and PrinceofFear!Kazuki weren't quite the stuff romance-fic-plots were made of, and since the request /had/ asked for a bit about Kazuki's reason for joining the Volts ...
I did consider mixing Kazuki's experiences at the Beltline into this, but they didn't seem to fit in - they changed Kazuki, I think, but the reason for his decision had to be something he saw in Ginji, and I picked that unnamed something that Ban felt Ginji'd lost sight of by the time of /their/ first meeting.
I like how you put the differences between Ginji and Kazuki and the way they ended up being friends and allies. And I can perfectly see Kazuki preferring to fight for a dream rather than just sharpening abilities ^____^
