When I started, I was using method D. Nowadays since I trust my memory enough, I use method C.
However, during the making of Go the distance, while the footage of Hajime no Ippo was different, it was VERY similar in alot of ways (Due to the fact that the majority of the anime took place in a gym and boxing ring). I had to use method B for it.
I plan to get two videos out of this, plus I plan to do a lot of compositing. I want to be able to search for other scenes if a certain one doesn't work out right, and I have a very short memory, so I'd have to go rewatch tons of footage. If I have scenes labeled and sorted, I can save that trouble.
It's interesting reading that and seeing the workflows people were using at the time. The transcoding methods I'm using now are just to get footage ready for editing are outright masochistic, but I'm OCD about video quality.
For me, and this applies for the GOH vids I have made as well (they are essentially mini AMVs) I use variants of B-D. It all depends. Some concepts practically build themselves. Like the GOH vid I built for the creator of Excel Saga the year we had him. The instant I heard we were getting him I had the first part of his GOH intro built in my head. Other times I have had to struggle just scrubbing looking for interesting bits.
I know that doesn't really help you probably but it comes down to what feels right for the particular project. my .02 -DP
The vids I'm shooting for are a bit on the ambitious side. What I plan is very do-able simply because there's just so damn much footage to work with. It's just a matter of finding it. I also need the flexibility to change gears entirely if something isn't working. Logging and cataloging the footage allows me that flexibility, rather than just watching 90+ eps and jotting down what clips I want.
Or who knows. This could end up as yet another project I said I'd do but end up never finishing.

With a super long show like CCS, use method B.

A little work now for a easier workflow later.

(Of course in 2004 I couldn't rip the whole series, but HDs have gotten bigger)
