☂ AUTHOR’S NOTES ;
I was meant to post this ages ago. Tssk tssk. Anyway, can you guys tell me how many chapters a chaptered fanfic should go up to? I’m thinking I’d need about 20 chapters to end this. Do you think that’s too long? Cos this is a pretty slow-pace fic, ne… Hm, anyway, I hope you like this chapter. Tell me if it’s boring. I wouldn’t be surprised. Oh, and Happy New Year everyone!~

☂ PREVIEW ;
“Ohno will never fall for a girl like Yoshida Mai.”

☂ CHAPTER SIX ;

On Monday, school for Mai had completely changed. And all it took was for Arashi to find out that she was Toma’s friend.

“Hey, Mai-chan! Sit with me,” Aiba called her over during lunchtime. “Me?” Mai said, confused, pointing to herself. Aiba nodded, waving her to come over. She walked slowly to Arashi, who were sitting on their usual spot, the table nearest to the door. Heads turned to her.

‘Arashi with Yoshida Mai?’ they were all questioning. ‘Since when?’

Mai quickened her pace, feeling eyes on her. Being the centre of attention was a no-no to her. Getting up to solve a maths equation on the board? Easy. Being on the stage to receive an award? No problem. But this? No, this was too much. This made her anxious. She sat down quickly besides Aiba.

She looked around the table, and met eyes with Ohno, who was sitting across her. He smiled kindly. Her chopsticks dropped to the ground. “Ah! Sumimasen,” she said, reaching for them, but Ohno had picked it up already. He handed it to her.

“Arigatou,” she thanked him, blushing. How she managed to say that with a dry throat, she didn’t know.

“Why the hell is Yoshida Mai here?” Everyone looked at Nino, who had just arrived with a girl in one hand, and a bento in the other.

‘Typical,’ Mai thought. Everyone in the cafeteria started watching them again. Nino just asked the question they’ve been wondering about themselves.

“She’s my friend,” Aiba shrugged. Jun had rice in his mouth, but that didn’t stop him from speaking up. “Mine too!”

Mai started eating, trying to avoid Nino’s glare as he sat down.

“Come, Keiko-chan, sit next to me,” he motioned for the girl. The girl looked at him blankly. “Aren’t you Kyoko?” Sho asked, confused. Nino blushed. “Yeah, I knew that,” he said, elbowing Sho.

“Itai! You’ve been hitting me a lot, Nino!”

“You deserve it!”

Kyoko slowly sat down next to Nino, her feelings obviously hurt. “Poor girl,” Mai muttered in a low voice. Aiba and Ohno laughed, hearing what she said. Mai blushed.

“Did you hear me?” she asked. Aiba kept on laughing, as Ohno nodded.

“I agree, Mai,” he said.

‘He called me by my first name!’ she thought, grinning. ‘This is such a good day.’

Ohno ate his last bite and said, “Alright, I’m going. There were apparently new books at the library on Friday. I’m gonna see if there are any new fishing books.”

Mai watched him leave, disappointed.

“Ah! I have books due today!” she quickly made up an excuse. “You barely ate, Yoshida,” Sho said. “Yeah, can I have your bento? You know, since we’re friends now,” Aiba, without hesitation, asked. Mai gave it to him, smiled at everyone but Nino, took her bag and left.

“You’re my new best friend!” Aiba called out to her.

Yup, school was definitely different.

There was silence around the table.

“Did you guys notice that?” Jun asked after a while.

“I’m a girl, so I would,” Kyoko said, trying to join the conversation. She was bored, and Nino was barely taking notice of her.

“Did you just call Jun a girl?” Sho asked, amused. Jun blushed. “I didn’t mean it like that!” Kyoko anxiously said to the person sitting next to her, shaking her head.

“Whatever.” Jun tried to keep his cool, even though he was hurt.

“I’m sorry!” Kyoko hugged him. Nino was about to tell her off, when he realized… He didn’t really care.

“Anyway, did we notice what?” Aiba remembered what Jun was saying.

“Ohno and Mai,” he simply stated.

Nino looked at them. “As if!” he said. He was confident that he knew Ohno’s personality.

“Ohno will never fall for a girl like Yoshida Mai.”

In the library, Ohno was looking for a new fishing book. “Where is it?” he asked himself.

“Ano… Would you like to look at this, Ohno-san?” Ohno turned around. It was Mai. She was holding a blue book covered with pictures of trouts.

He took it from her. “Thanks! Just the book I was looking for,” he beamed. He looked around for a table. “Wanna sit with me?”

Mai grinned. This was really the best day ever! “Sure!”

She couldn’t believe it. She’s with Ohno Satoshi. Alone. In one of her most favourite places. After three years of just looking at him from a distance, and wishing to talk to him… This was really happening!

She smiled, watching him as he flicked through the book, obviously very engrossed. She let out a giggle. Startled, he looked at her.

“Sorry. You must like fishing a lot, Ohno-san,” she apologized.

“You have no idea,” he grinned. “And call me Satoshi. I started calling you Mai, right?” he kindly smiled.

It was like God heard her prayer. And answered it.
