I think Livia Balaban's metafic is sweet, slyly funny, and wise to the ways of fandom. It makes me nostalgic for what I never got to experience firsthand: being a Phile, back during the heyday of The X-Files.

- so here is the story, minus some of the graphics, but with the rest of the formatting intact, via google cache and freeze-page. It's still readable and captures the essence of the fic for me.
UPDATE: The fanfic gods have smiled upon us once again and this fic is now on the Internet Archive HERE for your reading pleasure.
Because the rest of her fic is at Gossamer, I searched for the sequel and freeze-paged it as well. I just couldn't bear for these fics to disappear from the internet forever. (Frankly, I wish I'd done it when the graphics were up. This is our history. This matters to me, especially given how much we've lost this year.)
