Option 2: Studying CELTA in another foreign country - Asia part 2
D) Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh/Ha Noi
1. Ho Chi Minh: Full-time 3/7-4/1, 7/25-8/19 => Cost: 36,500,000dong (184,694yen)
2. Ha Noi: Full-time 2/29-3/25, 8/1-8/26 => Cost: 36,500,000dong (184,694yen)
Positives: Cheap course and cost of living. May have local help. Good timing for the courses in March.
Negatives: Need a visa. I don't speak Vietnamese.
Housing:
50,000yen is a high estimate for renting a room for a month.
Food
3000yen/day for 28days. Total => 84,000yen
Transportation
Flight: 65,000yen (also cheaper flights with a layover, about 50,000)
Transportation: 5,000yen (I think this might be over estimating it)
Total: 70,000yen
Total Cost
Full-time: 185,000yen + 50,000 + 84,000 + 70,000 ==> 389,000yen
Thoughts: This looks to be the cheapest option. It would be an interesting place to go and study at. I'd like to learn a bit more about it. My fears would be the language barrier, since I know absolutely no Vietnamese, and getting the visa. The school would provide airport transport, assistance in accommodations and on-going support.
E) Indonesia - Jakarta
Full-time 7/15-8/12 => $1850USD (209,160yen)
Positives A little cheaper than Japan. Not too far away.
Negatives I don't speak Javanese. Mosquitos?
Housing:
70,000yen rent for month.
Food
3000yen/day for 28days. Total => 84,000yen
Transportation
Flight: 60,000yen (low cost flights for 50,000yen)
Transportation: 5,000yen (Probably actual cost is much lower)
Total: 65,000yen
Total Cost
Full-time: 210,000yen + 70,000 + 84,000 + 65,000 ==> 429,000
Thoughts: This is cheap. I don't really have anything against Indonesia, but I don't know that I have a great desire to go to Jakarta. This is a reasonable option, however it would only work over summer vacation.
F) Thailand - Bangkok/Phuket/Chiang Mai
1. Bangkok/Chiang Mai (Phuket?) Full-time: 3/14-4/8, 8/1-8/26 => [Basic Cost: $1,600 (180,969yen)] Bangkok Cost: $2,100 USD (237,146yen) Chiang Mai Cost: $2,495 USD (281,801yen)
2. Chiang Mai (Bangkok?/Phuket?) Full-Time: 8/8-9/2 Cost: $1,600 (180,969yen)
Positives: Option 1 includes accomodations for the whole stay, with breakfast, lunch and dinner provided for in the Chiang Mai accomodations. No visa is required for stays less than 30 days and you can apply for a 7 day extension at the Thai Immigration Bureau Headquarters for 1,900Baht (6,013yen). It is an interesting place that I would like to visit.
Negatives: Possible safety concerns? Mosquitos/disease. I don't speak Thai. Option 2 I would have to find my own accommodations.
Housing:
1. Included with the fees. (2,000 Baht (6,331yen) for electricity and water in Bangkok)
2. 50,000yen (Probably cheaper, but this average rent)
Food
1. Bangkok: 3000yen/day for 28days. Total => 84,000yen
1. Chiang Mai: Weekday meals included with the fees. 3000yen/day for 8days. Total => 24,000
2. 3000yen/day for 28days. Total => 84,000yen
Transportation
Flight: Bangkok = 60,000yen (low cost flights for 43,000yen) Chiang Mai = 62,000yen (low cost flights for 51,000yen)
Transportation: 5,000yen (Probably actual cost is much lower)
Total: Bangkok = 65,000yen Chiang Mai = 67,000
Total Cost
1. Bangkok Full-time: 238,000yen + 7,000 + 84,000 + 65,000 = 394,000yen
1. Chiang Mai Full-time: 281,000yen + 24,000 + 67,000 = 372,000
2. Chiang Mai Full-time: 181,000 + 50,000 + 84,000 + 67,000 = 382,000yen
Thoughts:This is really doable. I like the fact that I would not need to find housing (and food) for one of the options. The classes also fit my schedule. I could even possibly do the course that is this March (there is space available.) I would get to go somewhere new. I would need to find out about getting vaccinations though. And I'd need to check my money.
Option 2: Studying CELTA Abroad (part 3)
