Movie Day

I don't have a car, and I live out in the middle of nowhere, so it's hard for me to go see movies.  When I do, I usually end up seeing more than one at a time.  I wanted to see Wolverine, Star Trek, and The Soloist, but I only had time (and money) for two, so I chose Trek (being a sci-fi geek who was itching for some good ol' space action) and The ( Read more... )

I LOVED Star Trek. Dying to see it again. Because of my parents, I grew up with it, and as a family, we made fun of the original series because it is so hooky. I really think that to be a fan you have to have that sense of humor that lets you make fun of your fandom. Let's face it, most sci-fi stuff has hookiness. And that's ok ( ... )

I can relate with growing up with the show. My Dad watched it since it first aired, and there's a famous incident in which he beat up his sister when she tried to turn the channel from Star Trek to watch an Elvis movie. My Dad's one of the least aggressive guys I know. So, yeah, I've basically been a fan since birth ( ... )

Someone pointed out that it might not even be Archer because he'd be like 140 years old or something. But humans probably live longer in that time with all of the advances in medical technology? But yeah, definitely not our little Porthos.

LOL I didn't know he only had one finger. So there, we traded information. Scotty was so my favorite when I was a kid, and I loved the Scotty vs. 80s tech (that's my second favorite movie by the by, Search for Spock being the first). But yeah, the writing for this was definitely better too. Though I did hear from a friend who heard from a Zach Quinto interview (ha hearsay), that Scotty asking for a towel was ad lib, so it makes me wonder how much was the writers in this sense and how much was Simon Pegg. :D Still cool though.

Actually, he's only missing one finger, not all but one (that'd be difficult!) But apparently that's enough to make them want him to hide it. Go figure. Because it's not like being an engineer on a starship is a dangerous job that can cause injuries like, say, maiming a hand.

As for Archer, I think it's supposed to be actual canon (probably established in the novels) that Archer was there for the launch of the NCC-1701, so he'd either be alive, or a zombie. Since this was the ship's maiden voyage in the film, when he'd have been alive in the established universe, it is possible he'd still be alive. And raising beagles.
