Let my emotions flow...?

Waterbending has always been my favorite, so watching The Last Airbender was... especially painful.

Not because they ruined Katara's character. Not because they failed to show any healing. Not because Yue became a dickhead. And not because Koizilla was omitted.

It was just a flat-out insult to tai chi. Now, I'm no expert at martial arts.. but ( Read more... )

I guess I should be pleased... I really can't imagine how the water would LOOK if it was corresponding to the ridiculous stances. >:|

But seriously and all Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged series jokes aside, I completly agree with you. The "bending" in this movie is no more impressive than the wiggling I would do as a 4 year-old when I had to pee. It is an insult to Sifu Kisu, the animators, martial arts, tai chi, Aang, Katara, the world (OF COURSE!) and many other things that I am too angry to list. I mean, whenever they are bending in the movie (especially waterbending, which is my favorite element in the series), IT DOESN'T EVEN MATCH THEIR FUCKING MOVEMENTS!!! I mean, how hard is it to fuck up?!?!?

You advance forward while doing a punching motion and a fire ball comes out of your fist (like, you know, IN THE EFFING SERIES?!). Right? WRONG!!!! Instead, you have to flail around, do the wave, kick in the air, do 3 cartwheels, half a back flip and pray to the Elder Gods a.k.a, Mike and Bryan and maybe, just maybe a little flame will burst from your palm...

...Which won't happen because you now need a source of fire.

"This scene REALLY felt like it was 5 minutes long to me. It was just... awkward and uncomfortable."

No shit. Scrolling down the page slowly to see wtf was going on in each frame, and then realizing I'd been scrolling for a while because it JUST NEVER ENDED, i was like "...well, damn, some water would have been nice just to keep me a little entertained."

le sigh

It drives me mad when the entrainment industry treats martial arts like it is nothing more than some punches, kicks and a bunch of yelling. Or worse, like this steaming piece of FAIL over dramatizes it and it ends up looking like interpretive ballet.

It was one of the many reasons that I liked Avatar, it was one of the few shows that actually respected the craft and took the time and care to get it right.

And then came M. Night.......and my splitting headache.

It is my theory that Advil's profits increased when this movie came out.

Wow, the stills just emphasize how ridiculous that is.

The worst example of waterbending IMO has to be that ball of water Katara "bends", and we see it drip water as it floats, but still doesn't diminish in size or shape.

This scene comes in a close second, though:
